What are you all moaning about ? We are working shorter days , if you can’t complete your duty , that’s royal mails problem. Honestly, anything to have a moan , the aspiration has always been to get us down to a 35 hour week , we get that for a while and you all cry about it :arrrghhh
it wont be a 35hr week xmas we will be working 39 if not more .

I know that , we were doing a 39 hour week from October to Xmas last year . This year we are only doing 5 weeks from late November to Xmas eve , so much better .

Pardon the pun but I wouldn't count your chickens on that one! Royal Mail seems to be taking flexibility to a whole new level by adopting and changing seasonal variations and messing our hours up as and when it suits. If its not working like we originally thought it was then it's because RM are once again pushing the boundaries of their interpretation of the agreement.

And the thing is it doesn't make any noticeable difference....Overtime is still being claimed, posties are still cutting off and letters are still being left in frames.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

So what if overtime is being claimed and letters aren’t being done , that’s not our concern, Royal Mail cut all the duties, not the union .Its Royal Mail that pushed for this seasonal variations and they clearly aren’t getting the savings they thought they would.Im personally enjoying these shorter days and earlier finishes , regardless of whether I complete my duty or not.

I also don't believe the creation and extension of this new low season has anything to do with actual mail volumes and everything to do with manipulating the balance sheet in time for April. RM will now be carrying 8 weeks less worth of debt owed to staff.
You can't do that. It will have to be shown as a short-term liability.

True and I wouldn't put that one past RM. They have a bad habit of modifying agreements to suit and our Union can't do feck all. They want staff to do more hours in winter when we deliver more Tracked items

Suppose nobody reminded them about council tax coming during these 4 weeks, they probably don’t care mind.
No they'll just say the usual bollocks only take them where you're going.
If they come through the system as "DSA Economy" or as 2C then any where there isn't a 1st class letter will get held back by the DTS system and only released a subsequent day if a DP has got a 1C or normal DSA letter. Any mail that has been held for five days gets released automatically on the fifth day.
I've heard of that before, well actually more than likely from you, thanks for providing that info, perhaps such a product will become more the norm sooner rather than later with the talk of ditching regular 1st/2nd class in favour of a premium next day service plus a "snail mail" for bulk postings/dare I say junk mail type stuff.
Long term the DTS system will be expanded to cover flats and packets as well

And let's not miss the point that delivery is being used as a bargaining chip with the supernumerary. Delivery cops it again.
