Absolutely disgusting. We’ve got walks failing daily. We are getting out late because we are short of F/Ts on the IPS, parcel sorting and then this.., 🤷‍♂️
Would you rather work more hours a day ? Let Royal Mail worry about what’s failing .
The longer we are on the low variation then the longer we are on the higher variation. I don’t want to be on the higher variation for longer than necessary. So in answer to your question, no I wouldn’t rather be working longer per day, but I will have to when they decide it’s time to
They owe us hours for the variation from last year , it all feels like a bit of trial and error from Royal Mail right now until they work these variations out in a way that actually benefits the company. Black Friday ( mid nov) to Xmas eve seems obvious to go longer days but who knows what they will finally settle on.

No we won't, they are reducing the shorter weeks in summer by 4 to cover these extended shorter weeks. So we will still owe them the same 5 weeks of longer hours. It will then either start again in some form next year or be sacked off as a bad idea

Still nothing in that statement regarding anual leave and how it affects us. Getting seriously more disillusioned by the ineptitude of these statements to be honest. Winging it and hoping nobody thinks too much about them or am I thinking too much?

What are you all moaning about ? We are working shorter days , if you can’t complete your duty , that’s royal mails problem. Honestly, anything to have a moan , the aspiration has always been to get us down to a 35 hour week , we get that for a while and you all cry about it :arrrghhh
Don’t forget we’ll have to “pay” that back - work even longer at Xmas for nothing - that’s their plan :arrrghhh

That thought struck me as well, if the extensions of the "light" periods due to low forecast continue any longer I can imagine it getting to September and they'll announce we owe them that much we'll have to double the variation from November onwards to 41 from 39, obviously fully backed by the CWU who'll tell us they successfully renegotiated that bollocks bonus from last year but this time we'll have more chance of getting it.

We should all be pretty annoyed by this. The agreement was shorter weeks in the summer to make the most of the summer. The agreement was clear and now the goalposts are constantly shifting. At what point does this constant short notice change of hours to reflect apparent mail volumes amount to banking annualised hours? We are starting to be treated as casual workers to be called upon as and when we are needed. Is that what we are sleep walking in to?

I also don't believe the creation and extension of this new low season has anything to do with actual mail volumes and everything to do with manipulating the balance sheet in time for April. RM will now be carrying 8 weeks less worth of debt owed to staff.

My thoughts exactly. This isn't just some trial and error, this is planned to LOOK LIKE trial and error but these shysters are going to hit us hard later in the year. RM simply cannot be trusted on anything. We have been shafted good and proper by untrustworthy, charlatans

Problem is all this does is create money in the bank for Royal Mail in terms of us owing them a 39 hour week for every 35hr one we work

Suppose nobody reminded them about council tax coming during these 4 weeks, they probably don’t care mind.

No they'll just say the usual bollocks only take them where you're going.

If they come through the system as "DSA Economy" or as 2C then any where there isn't a 1st class letter will get held back by the DTS system and only released a subsequent day if a DP has got a 1C or normal DSA letter. Any mail that has been held for five days gets released automatically on the fifth day.

A way out there long shot....maybe they are 'testing' to see how things are going with the future plans to reduce FT hrs down to 35. Like how they did with mail over 5 days instead of 6 days during covid.

Over the last week or so, we've had about 10 new bodies start, but we are failing duties left, right and centre. Since well before Christmas, have myself and work partner cleared our duties, for more that 2 days running. But management don't seem to care, as long the tracks are done.

I've heard of that before, well actually more than likely from you, thanks for providing that info, perhaps such a product will become more the norm sooner rather than later with the talk of ditching regular 1st/2nd class in favour of a premium next day service plus a "snail mail" for bulk postings/dare I say junk mail type stuff.
