Inside theft?

Post by Brd888 »

Hello,
I sold three batches of scrap gold on eBay and used signed for delivery for all three unfortunately only £50 available if items are "lost".

Item #1 posted with 2nd class recorded delivery. AOK. Tracking number worked. Signature received. Sold for about £190

Item #2 posted same Post office 2nd class recorded. After three full weeks, the tracking says nothing other than "Accepted at Post Office Lochee Post Office [DD2 3DB]". The item has been lost or, I suspect, stolen. Sold for about £255

Item #3 posted same Post office 1st class recorded. Unfortunately item #2 was view as just being a little bit late so I only upgraded to 1st class. Two full weeks later again the tracking says nothing other than "Accepted at Post Office Lochee Post Office [DD2 3DB]". One item could in theory get lost but two? I can't see how items simply get lost. I suspect full criminal theft of my items. This one was sold for £160

Claim process under way but I bet they will give me nothing for posting scrap gold, saying it is jewelry which isn't apparently covered. However this stuff was broken jewelry for scrap.

Any thoughts or comments?
Thanks.

Recorded delivery gets scanned once when posted at the PO and the next time is when delivery is attempted. There's no way of knowing where in the system they are. Special Delivery (or Tracked at the very least) should have been used as items sent via them can be tracked through the system. Presumably both are going to addresses in the UK.

Regardless of the definition of jewellery, the amounts you sold them for it's Special Delivery every time.

Additionally re the definition, I think you'll come unstuck under para v below:
Our definition of valuables (money and jewellery)

Any item that is:

i) precious metal that has been manufactured in such a way as to add value to it, including coins used for ornament;

ii) ingots;

iii) diamonds and precious stones;

iv) watches the cases of which are made wholly or mainly of precious metal; and

v) articles similar to any of those referred to in i) - iii) above with an intrinsic value.[/quote]

Has the buyer said they've not arrived?

Regardless, why on Earth would you send anything of that value by recorded? It's ebay, you set the postage price the buyer pays. Set it to be a sensible service.
