earlier start times for new contracts
The new contract posties have now been told they need to start 30 mins earlier than the older contract employees because they don't get paid for their breaks, how the hell was this ever allowed to happen, our union have a lot to answer for ,they are suppose to stand up for fairness for all how on earth are they ever going to get new subscriptions, the way the union were complicit in the post office scandal now paints a picture of why they sold us out.

Re: earlier start times for new contracts
It’s an absolute disgrace on both fronts how does a new starter work with an old contract postie on a van share duty when both finish at the same time and start the same time nothing has changed at ours still have breaks with old contract postie it’s a s**t show

Re: earlier start times for new contracts
Yes they are still having their breaks with us but not getting paid so have to make that time up by coming in early, they have to take their break by law,but they finish at the same time as us,the whole thing is a disgrace.

Where has this come from? .we haven't been told to do this in our office and if they did it would be carnage. We already get a much lower wage. Sunday working, less terms across the board.

Two tier workforce with less pay ,T & C s is a disaster and the Union agreed to this !
How would a new employee feel when they find out their work colleagues have much better contracts ,probably pxxxed off and leave.

We currently just put down 20 mins overtime if we don't have a break and finish the same as everyone

Re: earlier start times for new contracts
I get that new starters dont get a paid break but how can they be made to work 30 minutes for nothing? I'm not a new starter but if I was I'd say I'm not taking a break so I'm not doing 30 minutes for nothing, I'd be loading the van etc whilst the other person had their break, I'm pretty sure a quick break could be had on delivery?guardianangel wrote: ↑04 Jan 2024, 08:16The new contract posties have now been told they need to start 30 mins earlier than the older contract employees because they don't get paid for their breaks, how the hell was this ever allowed to happen, our union have a lot to answer for ,they are suppose to stand up for fairness for all how on earth are they ever going to get new subscriptions, the way the union were complicit in the post office scandal now paints a picture of why they sold us out.

They are not working 30 mins for nothing , they should be taking a 30 minutes unpaid break. Royal Mail has a legal obligation to provide them with the time to take that break.pieoftheday wrote: ↑05 Jan 2024, 15:49I get that new starters dont get a paid break but how can they be made to work 30 minutes for nothing? Re: earlier start times for new contracts
The bigger worry is they stay and RM eventually decides to try and reduce our contracts.

Ok, so if their shift is for sake of argument 8am until 3pm theres a break in there unpaid? They are getting paid for a 6hr 30 min shift? 30 min break unpaid, if they come in 30 min early they are working for nothing? So RM have fxxkt up and trying to con new starters

Re: earlier start times for new contracts
Probably f**k all. These days it seems like the union is non-existent in many offices.
