Hi,
I sent an item special delivery for delivery by 1pm the next day.
The last tracking update was it was ready for delivery by the local office at 5.42am.
I phoned Royal Mail who had no further information and to be told there are certain situations where they can't track the actual delivery so to check with the recipient. What does this mean? How would I be able to claim for a lost item if there are occasions where they don't record delivery?

Could you expand on that. What days are all these happening in? If it was posted yesterday, scanned this morning and not yet delivered, 3 hours before 1pm, then there is no issue.

Thanks for the reply.
It was posted on Wednesday 27th at 9amish and scheduled for by 1pm Thursday. Last update 5.42am Thursdah 28th. Still showing scheduled for delivery by 1pm on the 28th on the tracking app.

Ah, OK.
Seems a bit daft that delivery can't be registered though. Surely it would be scanned on delivery at least otherwise tracking is rendered pointless. My passport was registered as delivered to the passport office by Royal Mailand I assume they must get shed loads!
