On the 9th of November I sent an important letter to an embassy. I selected "Signed For 1st class" as it stated 1-3 days delivery aim and I thought it was good enough, as the urgency was not a matter of 1 or 2 days. I thought as I was sending it to Manchester from Rotherham it would all the same be delivered almost the next day.
I was very wrong.
Up until now nothing, just the initial acceptance info. I've contacted Royal Mail through twitter and they just point me to open a claim on the 22nd...
What is your experience? is it likely to appear and be delivered later? should I start reobtaining the documents inside and give it for lost? there was no monetary value, but to reobtain those original documents I will need months...
I never expected this to happen. I could have carried in person myself as I went there about a week later for other business... I thought it was nigh impossible for a signed for letter to get lost just crossing the Pennines....
IS there any chance it might be delivered but somebody has forgotten to add it to the tracking number? as the embassy is quite hard to contact and in any case they would take a couple of weeks to process it.

Signed for 1st class is really just 1st class with a scan at the very end.
You ever send important stuff send it Special Delivery as that has more checks along the way and you can track it along the way.
Depending on where you sent it from and where its going there could be delays due to so many to list
Check around the 22nd to see if they got it, in the mean time could be best to start getting copys of the files again.

Embassies and very large firms are notorious within Royal Mail for taking time to update, mainly because of the volume of scanned mail they get on a daily basis.
Don't treat it as a live update but as confirmation of historic delivery.

Just had to open a claim today as no news yet
. This was the tracking; NZ014705433GB just going from Maltby, Rotherham to Manchester
. I opened the claim as lost to see if it is treated with more importance than just delayed, although I hope it appears. I will surely from now on only send important things by Special delivery....
Tomorrow I'll restart asking for all the documents again....

They are terribly difficult to contact. By email they plain refuse to reply any message regarding if an application has been received. By phone I have tried today and just says press 1 or 2, and both options give an error. Will try again tomorrow
