Special Delivery parcel collected but email say collection failed

Hi. A lady in a Royal Mail vest collected my parcel this morning at 9:30am. She supplied a label which had the right address on so I presumed it was legit.

This evening I get an email saying your collection failed and if I want to book another collection, etc. The tracking info says ‘we’re expecting it.’

It’s now 19:30 and I think it’s very unlikely that it would have received no scan anywhere in the chain within 10 hours, so I’m already preparing myself for a lost parcel claim. The item is worth about £1200.

The only proof I have of the collection is the footage from my door camera. If this is a scam then how did they get the delivery address. If it’s a genuine mistake by the staff or loss, will Royal Mail pay the compensation from my video proof?

It probably isnt a scam because you were expecting it and the RM employee brought the correct label.

She should have scanned the parcel on receipt giving you a email confirmation of collection. If an item doesnt get a "consumer collection" scan by 7-8pm you automatically get the email you received.

She either had on off day or its the poor training RM offer these days.

If its a special delivery, the next scan will be from the Mail Centre usually by 7 - 9pm. It might be tomorrow as Consumer collections add an extra if the postie doesnt get back before the last dispatch to the Mail Centre.

The scanning for collections has been a bit random recently with IT problems etc. Should be ok though.

As Route1 has mentioned sometimes a misunderstanding or something that customers don't appreciate is that if you really really
want a Special Delivery to arrive the next day you should take it to your local PO.

For example I might collect your Special Delivery at say 1030 that doesn't mean it'll get to its destination the next day
as I might not get back to depot (or local PO if I'm working attached to a small PO) in time for the last collection.

That means it might not start 'moving' from the local area until the next day and so will not get to its destination
until the day after that. I think the scenario I describe is probably buried in the T&C's for collections somewhere.
