Lost Special Delivery Parcel 27/10/2023

Post by nohope2023 »

Hi all,

Could someone share positive experiences of their SD parcel turning up - I think that’s what I am looking for.

I posted a parcel by special delivery on 27th October 2023. It has not arrived at its destination. The distance between the post office and destination is 3 miles. It contained unique items that cannot be repurchased of total value £40.

I am keeping it fairly vague because I called RM nearly every day since expected delivery day, got in touch via website form, Twitter too (always polite, I promise!). So they have multiple case reference numbers on the system.

All employees that I have spoken to have been courteous, empathetic and did their best to help but they can’t magic out a lost parcel.

I have been re-imbursed for delay and lodged a claim for loss. Can someone tell what actually happens when a claim for SD lost items is made? Is someone going to try and locate the package? :cry

I just want the items delivered, I don’t really want the compensation.

The tracking info hasn’t changed since the day the package was posted which is 27/10/2023 8.45pm ‘we’ve got it at X MC’.

Thank you.

Sorry for your stress!

1. How big was the item?

2. If the information on the outside of the item has become compromised are there details inside the package?

3. Has the recipient confirmed they have not received the item ( was it an eBay purchase)?

The size of the package are 2 books packaged side by side so roughly slightly bigger than a4 and 2-3cm thick. They are within thick cardboard packaging additionally wrapped in brown posting paper taped at edges fully with brown posting tape as well as on the back were paper overlaps. Address was printed on white paper and adhered securely with pritt stick. There is no return address. It was not posted to a residential address and the place is easily identifiable from post code alone which I believe would be known from scanning SD bar code?

In my claim to RM I have submitted pictures of the content’s because I snapped them as a memory for myself before posting.

3. I can’t get in touch with the recipient because it was a surprise.

But RM customer service said there definitely would have been scans at DO and delivery point. It is not purchase/sale related and is a donation to an establishment.

Brown paper is not a good idea, it has a tendency to get ripped when caught slightly on machinery etc. Notice how none of the big internet sellers pack items that way, despite being cheap.

If the paper gets ripped and falls off then there might be no way of matching up the contents with the address or tracking labels.

Not a good idea because, if the address label slips off (and they do) then the parcel immediately becomes undeliverable.

Not a good idea generally and, in other circumstances, a criminal offence. If the address label has fallen off, as above, then a return address would have allowed RM to send the parcel back to you.

RM will check the description of the contents against the undeliverable parcels at the National Returns Centre.

It might be delivered. But definitely worth completing a lost parcel form.

Does anyone know what happens once the claim for lost special delivery parcel is made? Will anyone investigate its disappearance or no?

Might be time to spoil the surprise? Sometimes a barcode falls off and a new one is applied at a mail centre

Spoke to RM again, they said because it is lost at the mail centre it’s unlikely it will be found because they are huge and everything is processed by machinery.

Someone needs to write a book “The Journey of a Parcel”. I have no idea what happens after I pass it to the cashier at the post office. Well, I see them throwing it into a hanging sack sometimes.

They are telling porkies as usual ceartainly not in mc i work in do special deliverys go through a machine.1 reason they are unreliable as they missort a fair bit.an 2 sd's are called tat for a reason that nobody in rm will trust a machine.3 like i said earlier could be stuck in a bag or a red sleeve but turn up eventually (unless stolen very very rarely prob 99.9%safe.
