How long after "delivered to local courier" should I expect Royal Mail to update?

Hi,

I am having a package sent to me from the USA. It cleared customs on Friday afternoon.

The DHL tracking is showing as "en route" and gives me another tracking number for a company called YunExpress, they in turn have provided me with a Royal Mail tracking number.

Now on YunExpress it is saying "Delivered to local carrier" and this was on Saturday shortly after 4pm.

It is now Monday afternoon and the Royal Mail tracking number is saying "We're expecting it". Now assuming that the YunExpress information is correct and I am understanding it properly, it means Royal Mail has the package. But since they still say they are "expecting it" I would think that means it just hasn't been scanned into the system yet?

Appreciate I am probably just being extremely impatient/nervous, but is this normal? Should I be expecting the Royal Mail tracking to update soon, or is something else going on?

The only reason I ask is because I had another package, also from the US, clear customs about 3 or 4 hours earlier than this one, and that was delivered today (although with Hermes and not Royal Mail).

If they are logging it as being delivered to local carrier then doesn't that mean it is in the RM network?

Customs choose random batches of mail for extra checks, most likely your item is in one of the randomly chosen batches of mail

Hi, thanks for the answer but I am a little confused.

The tracking from the DHL link says that it cleared customs on 13/10/23 so why would it be being checked again?

No.

YunExpress scan all their parcels as delivered to local carrier en masse but because of the volume of traffic between the 2 Royal Mail it could a few hours or even days before it actually arrives at a Royal Mail site.

What you are probably missing is that Yunexpress scan in their warehouse, then put it into a container, when this container is full it is put to one side till the next wagon leaves (however long that may be). With Royal Mail the process is similar but in reverse. They get the containers from the carrier, break them down, then scan them into the system.

The best way to read " "delivered to local carrier" " status is that yuni have done their bit and have passed it on to Royal Mai. Also the sheer volume of items passing through Royal Mail will mean there are inevitable gaps in the scans when items are waiting to be processed. IIR the average daily traffic is around 35 million items.

So I shouldn't be panicking yet then? Even though Yun scanned on Saturday afternoon that RM are yet to scan their end?

It is a case of being patient as there is no way to rush Customs. The worst case for delays I have seen around Christmas is 4 weeks, and I don't think you are near that yet. But that's only for delays in customs.

Once Royal Mail scans it, as long as there are no local delays, you should get it within a few days to a week.
