You seemed surprised to be paying tax on income for some reason.
What in my post exhibits surprise in any manner? For it is my comments, how would I go about surprising myself?

Tax and NI are both single variables, just like pro-rata rate, that decide what the actual benefit of the bonus is. Just as a business shouldn't use gross profit as the key indicator when making decisions, it's best to work out the actual net worth.

Your eagerness and enthusiasm to jump to Royal Mails' defence leaves you vulnerable to making stupid comments. You can do better.
I look forward to you educating us further each week on your tax and national insurance contributions on your wage. Why else bring it up if not surprise at having to pay tax and NI on the lump sum?

I guess it follows the natural progression though

1) Oh I don’t want the blood money anyway
2) Oh we won’t get the money anyway. We were supposed to get it the week after a deal was agreed!
3) Oh don’t forget we will all be paying tax and national insurance on it so it will be next to nothing anyway!

Negative, negative, negative.

It really isn't jumping to Royal Mail's defence, I think that is overstating the position.
Common Sense Prevailed in the End.
70% voted for the generous deal in the circumstances.
That is a significant majority of posties, whichever way you try to splice it.
I don't think it serves us posties, the CWU and Royal Mail by looking back at a failed and entirely preventable strike, we should be looking to the future, and try getting our company, which we all have shares in it after all, back on a stable financial footing again, then we will all share in the fruits of our labours again, and the Royal Mail share value will start climbing again, making us all richer and more secure economically and financially. Simples.

God knows the last disastrous Royal Mail strike in 1971 led by the handle barred moustached, gannex raincoated buffoon Tom Jackson should have served as a potent and telling lesson as how not to conduct industrial action.

Ususal waffle...
Don't you ever get bored of looking for an argument? (Rhetorical)

You won't convince me £500 is worth the cost of the deal, and I don't care to convince you of anything. Your constant badgering only damages your cause.

Of course it isn't but it's kind of like when your car fails its MOT, do you sink another £1000 into it knowing its not even worth that or do you ignore the emotional attachment and trade it in for £500?

In the end it wasn't about the deal. It was about what we were going to do afterwards. That's what convinced most people to vote yes. The fact that they didn't want to throw good money after bad on a pile of s**t (the slim chance of a better deal).

Just because I don’t agree with what you say doesn’t mean I am after an argument. It is stating an opinion. I could flip it and say why do you feel the need to reply to literally every post I make? Are you looking for confrontation?

Please, stop with the baiting, you're only wasting your own time. I reply to these while I'm on the toilet.

It shows. Again, put me on your ignore list if you have no self control and can’t stop yourself from replying. You should spend more time while taking a s**t constructing posts with actual content rather than trying to stir up conflict with me. It has no end goal as we will carry on going round in circles as you aren’t going to prevent me posting my opinions on this site.

The recruitment crisis just got worse lol!
Just been chatting to a new starter. He joined the company in late June on the new 40 hour contract.
He's just seen his monthly pay slip on People App and he only got the £500. He's pretty pissed about not getting the additional £1000 lump sum and payroll are being borderline abusive to him on the phone when trying to get it sorted.
I reckon he'll be gone in a month.

Does anyone know if this lump some of £1500 counts towards your gross even if you have opted to put some in the pension?

He's not eligible as you had to be employed on the 26th march for the escrow payment, surely HR should have been able to tell him that.
