Special delivery still at Romford Mail centre

Hi

I sent a small parcel via special delivery on Thursday morning and its still showing as "we've got it" at romford mailing centre.

Tracking number: SE241560124GB

What are the chances this has gone missing?

Any help would be appreciated.

Was it properly addressed, have correct Postage and a proper SD sticker on?

Yup - address / label all on correctly.

I dropped it at the post office at 12pm and it went to romford mailing centre at 7.44pm on Thursday.

I sent two parcels via special delivery and one was delivered today and the other is still at mailing centre.

Was the barcode label one of the silver ones, if so was it well stuck down? They sometimes fall off of not well stuck down, if it's happened to another item as well then the staff in the area that processes SD items won't know which barcode label belongs with which item so a new barcode label might have been applied.

What's the first part of the post code for where it's going?

I purchased the label online and had a QR code and the post office printed it out and stuck it on. It looked secure and I didn't see a silver part to it.

The 2nd parcel had the same type of label (printed at post office) and that has been delivered this morning.

And because this one is still pending at the mailing centre- I fear it may be missing.

I've had bad luck with special delivery recently. The post man dropped one of my parcels at the wrong address and declared it as delivered by the RM GPS showed it wasn't actually delivered remotely close (but they couldn't say where) so I've had to put a claim in.

And now this parcel has been halted so I'm anxious it's also gone missing.

If it comes to the worst and the label they stuck on at the post office has come off they'll try to return to sender, it's good practice to write the "from address" somewhere on the parcel, if I sell on eBay I use the free bring a label service but I always write my return address on the back just in case.

Ahh. Good tip. I didn't write the "return" address but in hindsight I should have.

The label looked pretty secure when it was added on and it definitely reached the mailing centre.

Just such a hassle because if it is a label issue - I don't think there is a way to identify how to return back.

Is there anyway to contact a specific mailing center and find out where it might be held up?

The postcode to where its being delivered is W7 - I know its Sunday but one of my other special deliveries is still moving through and this one is still at mailing centre. What are the chances this isn't gone forever?

Pretty good, Special Deliveries going missing totally are very rare.

I think what might have happened as you mentioned you did not notice anything silver, that it may not have been identified as a special and is going through the normal mail system.

Since 24th August its been at the mailing centre. So strange. No movement at all. Even if it was being treated as "normal post" it should have had some progress?

It definitely had a white sticker that said special delivery. And they've logged as special delivery on tracking.

TBT, sometimes when a franked item is a SD the barcode is part of the franking!

I also always thought that Special Delivery were in special bags or (usually) had a sticker attached.

So I was surprised to receive one this week which was in this format instead:

A quick Google revealed that Royal Mail have removed the use of coloured adhesive labels for Special Delivery Guarantee and Royal Mail Signed For products - at least for those or those with franking machines as part of some "modernisation" scheme.
