So like many others our office has had zero information on any planned USO changes.

Is this a regional thing targeting the areas of the UK where RM say they are losing the most money?

Would be nice to get some offical info on this instead of rumours
Maybe there is nothing offical an its just rumours.
Well i have no reason to think the original post is a lie so why are CWU reps giving out this information if it isn't true?

There's not really anything to debate, it's either true or false

As a CWU rep I can tell you there is nothing official in any of these rumours, they are nothing more than unsubstantiated hearsay passing from one rep or member to another.

CWU reps are not giving this information out in any official capacity. If they say they are then they are definitely lying.

My reps would strongly disagree with you.

Well thanks for clearing that up, looks like some reps may have gone off script or there's been a lack of communication again

How does a pause in delivering letters on a Saturday turn the business around? People aren’t ordering as many parcels. Not sure stopping letters on one day is going to solve that. Unless you literally close the office for that day and save costs that way. It seems a bizarre tactic.
It's not my plan. :chuckle

But I don't believe for a second that the actual plan is to pause Saturday mail. They never mean to start it again.

The savings will be in wages. One person could do 2 to 3 rounds of tracked parcels on a Saturday or Sunday with no mail. You could half the Saturday wage bill, and look at sorting the Sunday agency splurge.
As you say, it isn’t in any way likely to turn around the company in the short term, as you still have staff on payroll who want paying. Suddenly stopping Saturday letters doesn’t start to have any financial benefit for potentially years when you start turning over staff at a rate that makes it worthwhile.

Have they shown you any official communication from CWU HQ on the subject?
Anything from Royal Mail?
Anything at all?

They can only strongly disagree with me if they have evidence this is official, otherwise it's just rumour no matter the source.

".all days off and Sunday working will cease until its all confirmed."

So what's actually happening this Sunday, has nobody been asked to work and so there are no Sunday deliveries taking place from your DO/MC?

well questions are starting to be asked in our office. few lads have said there doesn't seem to any or very little rumours on social media as stated by the rep. he also said there is an ongoing meeting happening with the union and RM, .....why has nobody heard about this? its completely obvious that the statement made about RM will run out of money in October if the USO is not scrapped is an absolute lie. its NOT going to happen. so the big question in ours at the moment is.....WHY would he come out with this pile of shite if its totally unfounded? what is the purpose? he's been a rep for at least 10 years. some think he's ok some think he's a useless tosser. but either way, WHY would he get the whole office into the canteen and make this statement. he DID say 'don't shoot the messenger'. it will come out in the next few days or whatever. as soon as i know, i will put it on here.

Royal Mail is a private company now.
Why should it, out of all the private companies competing in the parcels market, be forced to provide a universal service?

Only a government owned, treasury backed, company, should do such a thing.

I'm afraid the USO's days were numbered when Vince Cable did the Tories dirty work for them.

Ce le vie, as the French say.
Because it was bought with it and the buyers knew it came with it. Also, it was a bargain at the time.
Oh, yes. Silly me. Course it was, and course they did. How remiss of me to forget.

WHY would he come out with this pile of shite if its totally unfounded?
There are some facts around this.

1. Royal Mail would like changes made to the USO around a 5 day service and some changes to the first class letter specification, we know that because they've come out and said it.

2. Royal Mail are probably in their worst overall financial position for a long time, we know that because of the recently released accounts.

3. Royal Mail have a particular cash flow problem at the moment, we know that because historically they always struggle with cash flow in the summer period, anyone who's been here for years knows this.

I suppose some reps/members may have put two and two together and came up with five, is it possible the business could go back to ofcom and the government to pressure for at least a temporary change just to test the water, of course they could but there's no official word that they have or plan to.

Are they about to unilaterally walk away from the USO completely and do the kind of things your rep says?

No, that's just bullshit.

Well it was part of today's CWU brief, I'd be worried if they were including rumours.
What cwu brief?
