If someone was off sick before 1st august and go off sick now do they have to stand the first two days or was it a fresh start from august 1st ???

It depends if it was since last 31st July then yep no pay for the first 2 days a rolling year is a rolling year with no cutoff date

I've not seen any RM/CWU updates to confirm the new sickness pay policy was brought in on the 1 August?

chap i work with came in work on Saturday, went home after an hour unwell. Was under the impression that was part absence, he was told no, now its a full absence. He was also told he could work his day off for free, to cancel the absence to avoid the potential stage 1 for the year. Which he is doing tomorrow. Supposedly a few people have accepted this on our sector, the union rep was in the meeting with him
