Agree with Jemima some industries that have seen collapse, particularly the car industry which ultimately folded because workers out-priced themselves. Its just as easy to have a bad experience of unions as good. Depends in what industry and under what circumstances. Mind you, can't think of that many strikes where there have ever been any real winners but unions have helped shape working conditions.

That last sentence confused me slightly as I agree with you there have not been many strikes where the workers got everything they asked for, as in most situations both sides compromise and therefore by definition there are no winners. But then you point out where Unions and therefore strikes may have helped. The reason I am confused is I agree with both statements but they don't sit well together.

1 strike that did get what it wanted imho was the recent series of Burslem strikes, although the fight for justice continues, the Union got them a fair decision with independent review of the sackings/suspensions being allowed, and their DOM being moved sideways.

As someone says I think he does - he always seems to want someone to bite that's why he writes in a style that seems to be designed to get peoples backs up or belittle unions and union members. He will get bored eventually if we ignore him. Its difficult as a Moderator and we have both given him the oxygen of publicity by referring to him, but I will no longer respond to any of his posts as he is disrespectful both to me and other members. Well that's my opinion for what it counts for, and no I wont respond to him if he quotes this post.
