New Click & Drop Charge - Supplemental charge: Post Office drop-off?

Hi All,

In recent days/weeks i've noticed multiple £0.16 additional deductions from my account. I caught one of the emails today which stated the following:

You have been charged £0.16, paid to the Royal Mail Group Ltd.

A summary of your charge is set out below:

Supplemental charge: Post Office drop-off
Related to shipment: ****XYZ123GB
Payment service provider: World Pay
Payment reference: WP-XXXX

Could someone help me understand what this relates to as I'm not seeing a clear answer anywhere on RM website?

Reading the T&Cs the only bit i found that might apply is the following:

if you use a different Item drop-off or collection option than the one you selected during your purchase journey for the postal services using Royal Mail Click & Drop) then we may charge additional fees to cover the difference between what you have paid and what you should have paid had you provided the correct information

But i don't specify in C&D where I'm going to drop off the item, I just drop it at any local post office as usual. Is this the reason?

I believe this refers to the Tracked 24/48 parcels only (correct me if I’m wrong). These are Royal Mail products which you couldn’t previously (officially) drop off at PO branches because Post Office Ltd didn’t get any revenue from them. Royal Mail and POL must have come to an arrangement where POs will accept and scan these parcels for a fee, which is being passed onto the customer via Click n Drop/Online Postage.

You are asked to specify where you are going to drop your packet off - if you choose a PO branch you are charged an extra 16p. If you choose a different free option but take it to the PO anyway, the RM systems pick up the PO scan and charge your card accordingly for the supplementary 16p.

That’s my understanding and interpretation anyway.

New policy since 12th July

Tracked 24/48 Parcels (Large letters have no change) are now at a lower price (16p) but only if you get it collected or take to Royal Mail depot but if you take to Post Office you are charged the old price what they are saying is the price of parcel plus supplementary fee of 16p.

If you previously took to post office there is no change in price as they made the total price of parcel + charge the same but if you get collected (what Royal Mail wants) or drop off at Royal Mail depot or put in parcel post box (I don’t recommend) you now pay a cheaper rate.

It's about time that RM allowed PO branches to sell both T24 and T48. I think both would do really well, though it'd probably see the numbers of SDs drop like a stone

DOs are now open for the most part 2 hours a day in the week and 4 hours on Saturdays.

Collections are flaky at best and last time I had one they came outside of the collection window and forgot the label ("I'm just agency mate, they didn't give it me").

POs are ironically the most reliable and customer friendly solution to drop off online postage. It almost feels like RM doesn't want the business.

RM don't want to pay PO - that's why they're big on COLOD and successful 1st/2nd delivery of parcels.
