Then what happens next, it's not like it's Yes to accept the deal and No to just carry on as we were before?

It’s a no from me

Bring on the gate meetings and mass walkouts when you try change our start/finish times
We won’t have a mandate to strike though. The ballot runs out in August and the PEC won’t be calling anyone strike so any walkout will be a wildcat one and people will be out the door.

There won’t be anymore strikes we tried that and it failed.
You don’t have to strike you can just refuse to work the new hours

State your reasons, hand it to your union representative, make sure everyone in your office is in agreement and all do the same

If they try to dismiss you they potentially face a tribunal for discrimination

This is what being part of a union is all about if you all stick together and say no they can either sack everyone or sack nobody
And if everyone in your office is not in agreement what then?

Serious question. We are not all in the same boat.
That’s the gamble and that’s why you have a gate meeting first and probably best to have an anonymous vote on it

Royal Mail are betting that we are not that unified and so won’t be able to pull it off

But if those start/finish times change many people in our office will not be able to afford to come to work so many people have nothing to lose as they’ll be losing their jobs anyway

This is the time we really need our union to step in and step up
I doubt any rep would put their head in the firing line in your scenario if a yes vote wins. The rep would be the first to be suspended for going against both the union and RM agreement. Most or all of you would then be suspended. Workers from other offices would be sent in along with agency to get the office back up to date. You really need to think about things carefully.
Let’s hope it’s not a yes vote then 🤞

YES. Vote with what your head tells you based on the facts that the CWU have presented. Don't vote based on your anger. RM have been right up for this dispute. They wanted it as opportunity to reduce union involvement with a view to dividing the workforce. Anyone with a single brain cell knows that RM will not re-negotiate anything. Unofficial action is against the law and anyone involved will be summarily sacked. Think seriously not in anger but in cold logic.
If it’s a no vote (which every poll has indicated it is likely to be) and RM try to push the changes through regardless

Then it is not unlawful to refuse to accept those terms

If RM try to sack you for not accepting those terms then it will go to a tribunal

As many people took the job on because of the hours a tribunal is likely to rule that your job is no longer recognisable as the job you originally applied for

And so if Royal Mail wanted to get rid of you they would have to make you redundant

If we all stick together do you think Royal Mail could afford to make everyone redundant??

Vote no

Dealing with problems

Problems can arise if:

an employer tries to change a contract without agreement, or re-employs someone on new terms and conditions
there is a breach of contract where one of the terms in a contract is broken (for example an employer does not pay agreed wages or employees do not work agreed hours)
Solving disputes
Employers and their staff should try to solve disputes about contract changes by talking informally or through mediation.

Employees can also get advice about changing a contract from:

their trade union representative (if they’re a member of a union)
Citizen’s Advice
Acas (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service)
In Northern Ireland, they can get advice from the Labour Relations Agency (LRA) .

Acas helpline
Telephone: 0300 123 1100
Textphone: 18001 0300 123 1100
Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm
Find out about call charges

LRA helpline
Telephone: 03300 555 300
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
Find out about call charges

If the problem cannot be solved, employers or employees may have the right to take legal action. It’s important to get advice first because legal action can be expensive. Trade union members may be able to get legal advice from their union.

Making a change without agreement
If an employer makes a change to a contract without getting agreement (including by using flexibility clauses unreasonably), employees may:

have the right to refuse to work under the new conditions
say that they’re working any new terms under protest, and are treating the change as a breach of contract
resign and claim constructive dismissal
be able to take a case to an employment tribunal

10 years a postie. You need to learn some grammar and how to spell then your posts might not be so childish. I hope I am like my dad and grandad who took pride in their job and supported every strike called. I would say vote with your brain but!!!!!!!!!

It's a poor deal, brokered by a poor union. Unfortunately we are being shafted by both sides.

I’m betting the CWU legal team has more expertise than googling when it comes to employment law. Why do you think they are telling you to vote for this deal if a no vote results in the status quo being maintained?

Change is happening regardless. See how far you get fighting it without union support.

Surely no tribunal would rule in your favour cause the employer wants you to start a bit later and you’re losing a bit of sick pay.

Let’s just hope it’s right this time it certainly matches the opinion in our office

If we don’t collectively agree to the changes we can legally refuse to work the new conditions

There’s no need to strike to defend our terms and conditions we can just say no

You can get info from GOV.uk or speak to citizens advice (I used them a lot when I had my business and they pointed me to the right sources and even helped me with my forms)

At the end of the day if you have strong reasons to refuse the deal then that’s what you should do instead of trying to work out the alternatives

It’s not our job to draw up the business plan that’s what the board get paid mega bucks to do

It’s our job to say look this won’t work in the real world and this is absolutely not acceptable

Let’s make that message a strong one and vote no!!!
