Forget the last letter times, that's the last letter out on the street, what's the actual time you walk out the office to go home? That could be nearly half five after driving back, pouching off etc & will you still be use 20 mins break at the end of shift? Surely it's not long before that's pulled
Im so confused by this “last letter” thing. To me, last letter has always meant the time at which you stop delivering and head back to the office. You usually give yourself 10 minutes to drive back (obviously varies depending on where you are) and then 20 minutes from when you arrive back at the office to clocking out.
So for example if ones finish time is 3pm, your last letter time based on the above would be 2:30.
The aim is also why does a mail centre need 90 minutes to process 5% of the workload , can it be done quicker which will help reduce the impact on start times further.
With the later arrival times into MCs we'll be processing 2C when it arrives so capacity for sorting inward will be greatly reduced. Any mech in that 5% will go manual as it will have missed the boat for being run through the machines
Surely this last 5% of mail can sit til the next day if they want green.
If large companies don't want RM to use aircraft why not just tell them that, or just bring the last time for posting letters forward by an hour, in the age of emails I doubt anybody still needs to wait until 5pm to send out their mail for the day.
Although that seems at odds with companies demanding orders made up to 10pm are delivered the next day, recently I have been spending my afternoons just delivering LAT's, how green is that when there's probably 1,000's doing exactly the same across RM?

You've hit the nail right on the head there, they don't want their own goal of paying shitloads of overtime (if like my local LAT office partly ghost) to deliver LAT's, instead they want the LAT's to simply be incorporated into the main delivery.

Exactly. I mean 95% on most days doesn't go out for a week in our office or if your lucky twice a week!
Absolutely zero reason to knock times back because of 5% of mail so much.
It would cause quality of service to nosedive. You'll have some SDs in that 5% as well as Tracked and there's no way in hell that RM are going to fail either of them

I'm not sure starting deliveries an hour later will still give sufficient time for LATs to be incorp in the main deliveries, as ours don't arrive from the MSP until 10:30/11am at present. Perhaps things will change when the PDR's commence and the Midlands Super Hub gets up to sped
They can send the late specials out with the LAT man and the managers can sort the late arrival mail. I can see their plan being to slash collection duties and have the bulk of these put on delivery staff hence the later duty times.

It'll be interesting to see how they plan on doing the staffing for the last 5% as our early shift has effectively been axed, most are now supernumerary. If the supernumerary staff in MCs are indeed about to be re-deployed then the last 5% will just be failed and rolled over to the next day, SDs and Tracked as well. Also who do they plan on sorting any LATs that aren't being cross docked so the LAT offices when our early shift has been decimated. Those that remain will be concentrating on 2C/T48 and later DSA (I have my doubts as if there will be enough staff for that)

You wouldn't need a full office to sort and deliver that, I suggest the useless Managers could manage that along with a few of the new guys on inferior T&C's.
I have 4 schools on my round..... I can't wait to get stuck in school traffic at 3pm when our finish times change. I estimate I will deliver ~20 minutes less work due to traffic.
Later finishing =
1. Less work getting done. So much for efficiency and providing quality of service!
2. More pollution as we are stuck in traffic. So much for going green!
