2 Parcels stuck in Mail Centre for days

Post by EmilyH »

Hello,
I have sent a parcel to Hong Kong a few days ago, I did this in quite a rush at a post and packaging, and I didn't even buy postage online but at the post and packaging shop, a label with a barcode for international track and sign and another label with recipient's address hand written on were affixed on the parcel, but unfortunately, no custom form was filled out, and even worse I haven't written down my return address.

I only realized that yesterday as the parcel tracking shows recieved at Medway but not updating at all since then.

I was told that there's no way I can intercept it but have to wait for it to go all the way to Hong Kong and back due to missing custom form, and call Royal Mail again when I can see tracking shows it's at Belfast National Return centre.

But is it normal that the parcel is still at the first stop after a few days?
How does it work when it is in Belfast? Is it possible to have it returned back to me since there's no return address? I do have my tracking number and a picture of the content in the parcel thou ...

I had another important letter to Hong Kong earlier still stuck in Medway MC as well...

Many thanx and sorry for the long post, just panicking....

There have been a few problems recently with mail for Hong Kong so I wouldn't worry too much. Is not at our end but at Hong Kongs end.

I worked there for a few years and I still have some contacts out there they say there are delays in customs.

As to:
But is it normal that the parcel is still at the first stop after a few days?
It is if it needs a customs declaration and it is missing. Customs will go through their various procedures but ultimately if it needed customs clearance and does not have the right paperwork it will eventually be returned to the sender with an explanation of why.

This page has advice on what should happen to international mail. https://www.royalmail.com/international ... t-bulletin

Thank you so much it's such a relief knowing that it will eventually get returned but not lost...
