Post by Martin Walsh »

During the negotiations the union identified the opportunity of a further lump sum which needed the agreement of not only Royal Mail but an external party.

This is the lump sum the union is referring to and if things develop it is hope that it will be on offer as part of the agreement before the ballot commences.

Getting really desperate now dangling a big carrot (which after all is still only a maybe) and posting it on here early in the morning!

Either it's a definite and say so or don't say anything at all!!

with the poor pay of £500 only for us with no backdated pay, why don't the union do a deal with royal mail, could get us £1500 lump sum and back dated pay if we shut down the callers offices, royal mail would make savings that way. Lets face it the posties are doing everything now plus the callers work, not many parcels brought back today for the 2nd attempt shows u their is no need for the callers, so union could use this as leeway to get us a better deal, since theirs no use for callers now
Why don't they close the RLB as well , spending all that money to send mail back to people who can't be bothered to put a return address on it.
If they don't put a return address clearly it's not important and they don't want it back , that includes bloody businesses.
I’ve long thought that, I don’t want to see colleagues out of jobs but it seems ridiculous them having to open mail, piece together clues etc purely because the sender couldn’t be bothered to put a return address on.

On a related note we have a parcel that for the last 8/9 months has gone between our office and a neighbouring one. The recipient has moved away (no redirection in place), and the sender has also moved away (also no redirection). No one - senior posties, workplace coach, management - seem to know what to do. Every week we send it back to the return address, following week it comes back.
The NRC generates revenue.
How ?
Any item returned to RlB that cannot be repatriated are auctioned off and the proceeds go into Royal Mails bank account

I doubt that the net income from that even covers the staff costs of running the RLB. Most of the stuff auctioned off wouldn't look out of place in a jumble sale.
