It's when you're in the callers office and someone comes in for a parcel they missed yesterday as they only live around the corner so they popped in on way to work, only to have to tell them that you can't give them the parcel that's residing 5 paces away on a shelf behind you because the rules say it has to go back out on delivery today. To which the reply is but i'm at work that's why i've come in now, to which you say, those are the new rules. Who thinks this stuff up , it is crazy. There will be no royal mail in 2 yrs max.
Why would a parcel they missed yesterday be in the caller’s office? Items not delivered first time stay on the frame and are taken out next day. If not delivered second time they are booked in at callers.
I totally agree that it’s a stupid system, but it’s what the customer wants, apparently.

Funnuly enough, i dont recall being asked this myself. But ST said it under oath, so it must be true
I think there will be some sort of fine. Royal Mail has irritated enough people in Parliament that Ofcom will have to act. Most backbenchers are powerless and their lot in life is to be the social worker of last resort. I guarantee you that they and their staff absolutely hate dealing with this, the missed hospital letters, the streets who aren't getting their post, etc. etc.
That being said, the company probably sees this as a loan. Make money from saving on man-hours. Pay off a fraction of that when Ofcom sluggishly springs into action.
Every week on my newsfeed i see an article on a different random office across the country apologising for delays, claiming sickness absence. The government know, the media know, it just stinks
I don't get the contradiction of the gov insisting on the 6 day delivery, to then not really be bothered if it fails anyway
They have to be seen to do something, but not too much or that might draw attention to another disastrous privatisation they're (semi) responsible for. Rebuffing the company's repeated requests is simply keeping up appearances. Call it 'regulatory theatre'.

Yeah my mistake, not in callers office but by frame outside. Another case of those that make decisions not having a clue.

A bit like the water companies realising they’ll make more profit by just dumping a load of sh** into the sea and paying any fines.
Be honest , the USO does not exist anymore.
Our office has been blatantly disregarding it for about years. OFCOM rely on on the "factual" information supplied by RM.
We all know there is no such thing.
OFCOM should be investigated for incompetence. It it a worthless ombudsman.
OFCOM only know what RM tell them. If all they get told is that RM are fulfilling the USO why should they believe otherwise? Start taking pictures of mai left in frames and parcels getting left behind and start whistle blowing.
I did point out that OFCOM only know what they are told by RM. All lies btw .
I have been it contact with them, not easy to do .
There's a reason automatic redelivery is coming in
1 - Get rid of Callers Offices, been their plan for donkeys, since it means they can 'free up resources' to put people on delivery, or in most cases IHR them.
2 - It's a big part of the new contracts coming, just look at the HM Passport Office contract; it's been briefed that automatic redelivery is part of the agreement and they'll want to be offering that out to more businesses with HMPO as the example.
The fact it's s**t for the end consumer is irrelevant, since they're not the ones paying.
