Huge difference doing that inside on nice flat surfaces though compared to out and about in all terrains and weathers.redheadedwoman wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 10:34Maybe not every day but I definitely do just as much if not more walking them when I was in deliveryCRIBMAD wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 09:50redheadedwoman wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 09:19I average between 35000-40000 steps a day
Not sure what that is in miles but obviously not as tough as prepping and delivering a walk out in all sorts of weather plus all the other s**t that goes with delivery
40 000 STEPS ? load of bull !

Nah no believing that at all. I've went out with an entire second duty on overtime and no even went over 33k steps. So once again utter bullshit.redheadedwoman wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 11:57Not every day but there are and have been days when I have done that amountAcca Dacca wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 11:27You still don’t do 40k stepsredheadedwoman wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 11:23My duty is porteringblink-1872 wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 11:08No yeh dinni mate. 100% bullshitredheadedwoman wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 09:19I average between 35000-40000 steps a day

Other then when it’s my meal break that’s all I do all day move York’s from A-B 5 days a week not the hardest job in the world but involves lots of walking from work area to work area defo not bullshit
Like I said I will check this week and see what I am doing
Some days will be more than others some days less it just depends on how quick/slow I’m going each day it’s only an average

Porters in our Mail Centre regularly do 30000 - 35000 every day.
Yes it's all on flat surfaces, yes they are not affected by extremes of weather.
However 99% of the Yorks in service are not fit for purpose, many roll like boomerangs pulling to the left or right. This puts tremendous strain on shoulders, back and knees.
Most of the Porters we have had over the years fall foul of Plantar Fasciitis with no chance of rest, most leave.
Having said all of the above chapeau to all Delivery Posties, not a job I would ever do.

Should the CWU have set a limt on what a delivery postie should walk in the recent negotiations?
If yes what should it have been in hours, miles or delivery points?
Could delivery posties answer

I would say 4 hours of walking is maximum. years ago I think the agreed maximum was 3 1/2 excluding 2nd delivery

Yes 4 hours should be max, cannot see the union fighting for that for us.

That is because it would mean a predominantly part time workforce in delivery.

My experience talking to work colleagues is that there seems massive variation depending on what phone/fit bit youre using to measure the steps. Also big differences between tall and short people which sort of makes sense.heraldmoth wrote: ↑24 Apr 2023, 13:032000 steps is about 15-20 mins do the maths I know anecdotally people who do 35k (whether that’s all day or just working day) I wldnt scoff at someone’s figures tho

I once sat next to a bloke on IPS and when we had finished sorting his app told him he had walked 1/2 a mile.
My van share partner thinks he walks 18 miles/day.

if you do 50 steps per minute (average walk speed)and times it by 60 minutes , it works out at 3000 steps per hour
At that rate your delivery would be on delivery over 13 hours
Even if you do 3000 steps in your office pre delivery it would still be over 12 hours
Unless of course you live 6 miles away and walk to work and back
