Parcel with QR code label in post box?

Post by dilu »

Hi,

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I've had a quick search in the forum but couldn't find anything on it.

Could anyone tell me if it's possible to post in a post box a small parcel that just has a Royal Mail QR code printed on it? This would be an Amazon returns code which you're supposed to take to the post office where they scan it (probably on your phone) and print out the label for you. Amazon apparently no longer give you the option of printing a label yourself. If you live just round the corner from a post box, it seems a lot of unnecessary hassle to have to go to the post office (during opening hours and possibly queue up) when you could just drop the parcel in a post box.

Thanks.

The best bet for this is to contact Amazon at www.amazon.co.uk/contact-us, use the chat facility, type 'human'. When an associate answers, ask them to email you a prepaid label. That's what I do as I agree with you - far too much hassle with the QR codes.

Personally I wouldn't Dilu.

We had the same scenario recently.
See 30th January below.

Please write somewhere on the parcel the intended delivery address, it would save an awful lot of hassle later.

Thanks.

Thanks. I'll probably do that on this occasion, although I'm not sure why Amazon took away the option (at least in my account) of printing the label yourself without contacting them first. It's not like they're saving the planet by getting the post office to print the label instead.

Thanks. Just for clarification, if I put the QR code and the delivery address on the parcel, would it definitely arrive or would that still not be for sure?

If this is a pre-paid return (I.e. Amazon are paying the postage) then the most important thing is to get the certificate of posting from the Post Office, and keep hold of the CoP until the parcel has arrived. That way, if something goes wrong in transit you can prove that you have done your part, and any further problems are a matter for Amazon to take up with RM.
