It's unbelievable reading this as a lot of the replies are anti Union. I hope it's not younger people with less seniority, If you're our future then we're f****d.

Whether RM can cope with the strikes, or not, is irrelevant. The damage is caused by the constant cloud of IA looming over the business, making the service unreliable. Posties look at these strikes from inside the business, a customer does not have this point of view. All they know is they're being foretold of possible delay due IA. No business can operate like that.Ppat98 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 23:08That could happen, 1 of the big questions is. Are Rm able to cope with further strike on light mail? They no doubt learned a few lessons during Christmas & we be better at setting up plans to cover strikes.needadvice wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 21:48Long term and sustained IA would be a very big issue for many businesses. I mean, as a business owner, why would you not switch to a different courier if this continued?
If so the union may need to up the ante & do 3 or 4 day rolling strikes. Cause if the mail volume is set to stay like this for months ahead then the 1 or 2 day's probably won't cut it.
I don't know, I'm just trying to be realistic with the possible outcomes.
Another big concern is the union are fighting for a 18 month contract, which will fly by. So will we potentially be going through this again after the contract's up. Surely they should of gone for a longer contract.

Why do they want a deal? Why even acknowledge the union if its so ineffective?FilthyBloke wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 21:32Wishful thinking. The strikes before Christmas didn’t twist royal mails arms and any strikes in march or April won’t either.stevejm wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 21:22That's what these talks are for - to see if RM are amenable to more changes - if not, we members go to ballot again.Ppat98 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 20:56Not a good sign that Rm haven't budged on any issues that effect us all. They could be waiting until the end of talks to offer more or if they don't, they probably aren't worried about another round of strikes. Which isn't a good sign for us.
If we have a approximate figure of how much RM are set to lose if we go through another round of strikes, it will tell us if it's worth it or not. We hit Rm with a few gut shots over Christmas & they just took them. With light mail ahead for awhile, is striking gonna be as effect?
RM would be stupid to offer anything until they see the result of the ballot - so, if you want a decent pay rise, if you DON'T want annualised hours and work 'til finish, THEN vote YES on the new ballot - by doing so you are figuratively twisting RM's arm higher up their back - THAT is WHEN they will 'submit' and concede more changes - what y'all have to understand is that it is the THREAT of renewed I.A that will force R.M to concede further.
And if you don't think that is true, if you don't think that your withheld labour has had any effect - then ask yourself why R.M is even bothering with any talks now. If the strikes had had no effect then why would R.M even bother meeting with the union?
They are talking because they want a deal. But it’ll be a deal on mostly their terms. The tiny inches they have budged so far show their intention.

I've read this about 10 times, and as far as I can tell K9 and Schiff, you're saying the same thing. This is a reballot that will strengthen the union's hand, should this return a strong yes vote, and will lead us ultimately voting on a new deal, should that come to fruition, thus making it a rejection of the 'best and final offer'. Should it return a no result, this will, at best, be an acceptance of the 'best and final offer', however, I doubt we'd even see that.k979aaa wrote: ↑14 Jan 2023, 14:27Nonsense.Schiff wrote: ↑14 Jan 2023, 10:25I disagree. The upcoming ballot is effectively on acceptance of RM's "best and final" offer as it stands at the time that ballot papers are issued.k979aaa wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 22:45Reballot is just that and has widened as one ballot this will strengthen the unions hand it is VERY IMPORTANT WE VOTE YES IN THIS BALLOT. As to a vote on this future agreement that has not been envisioned yet it will require a vote on it and all the terms and conditions that go with it!
If we vote against industrial action then the union are left with no leverage to continue negotiations. The idea that we could vote against industrial action but then vote against the offer on the table is a nonsense. The union would either have to accept the offer on the table or else it (or something worse) would simply be imposed. There would be no more negotiations as there would be nothing to bring RM to the table.
We would also have to accept whatever Thompson wants to do to us for the next few years as the membership would have indicated to RM that they have absolutely no stomach for a fight.

Voting anything other than a massive YES will make all the hardship caused by the previous strikes, an utter waste of time.
Why were we striking and eating beans on toast for weeks? For the crack?
It’s a YES, then YES again, and again, on a loop.

Doesn’t everyone eat beans on toast? #FoodOfTheGods
A few yes votes won’t cut it, it has to be a massive YES vote.

The receiving customer doesn't care if they don't get their letters for a couple of days, most don't even notice. The Tracked parcels will get delivered, the untracked ones, nobody cares about. Basically they won't bloody care.... So don't count on their support. Look at the rail strikes, they don't care until affects them. Union needs to get a deal now.Halfhappy wrote: ↑14 Jan 2023, 18:01Whether RM can cope with the strikes, or not, is irrelevant. It's worth £5.68 per hour.midegarelu wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 18:14
Sorry friend you missed a word at the end.
YET
At the moment all MC's are open Sundays.
How else would you get your work on Monday.
This premium from memory is worth about £2 an hour.
Going forward when delivery is required to work Sunday's wouldn't it be good for all if this payment was kept.

That's because all the new starts since November have been on monthly pay at £11.59 per hour with no delivery supplement, no rris , less holidays, crap sick pay get ect. This is the new reality, there is a two tier work place now in RM. The union have been f****d over well and truely, I'm sad to say. Dave is WAY out his depth. I think it Terry was still there it would be a different outcome. For the first time I think yous have lost and lost big and that's very sad. I hope 100% I'm wrong.Barnacle wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 18:52But the way they have phrased keeping it for existing recipients, it sounds like when they make us sign a new contract which includes Sunday working, we won’t get the premium.britwrit wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 18:50If the Sunday premium is retained for everybody - including folks on SA and overtime - this does mean something. For one thing, that whole catchy "Same Day Same Pay" slogan goes out the window.fb1969 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2023, 18:43Regional Recruitment Incentive Scheme (RRIS) is paid in certain areas (regional) where the cost of living, housing etc is higher than average. In the office I left, it was worth around £34 a week.
While some people may not "give a sh1t" about them, they are vital to some. The original offer of 2% while removing RRIS would have meant a pay cut before playing around with inflation and the like. What point in a pay rise of around £8 a week if you are having a £34 supplement removed?
More seriously, if Sunday working is voluntary, it'll give more folks a chance to scoop up an extra £30 to £40 a week.
