Hello,
A friend of mine sent me a parcel using AnPost October 2022, from a small town near Dublin.
Firstly, I have had things directly from this person before. Last year I waited about a month for something from this person, sent untracked.
This label was created the 23rd October - LK801058785IE - 19 euros for express.
After not receiving tracking updates, I messaged him and he realises he posted it using a postbox built in to the wall of the post office as the person on desk was on dinner, and he didn't have time. I contact AnPost and they said we have not received this in our system, it's most likely been sent standard if it was posted using the postbox. Waste of his 19 euros. This may have context as to where it maybe held up? Item in wrong service pile? Stuck in Dublin, Langley or Liverpool?
Anyway, do you think this is lost? I am basically counting it as lost and I'm sick of thinking about it. Any anecdotes or opinions will help.
Thanks!

Literally no way of saying without the tracking. You would hope that somebody would spot it eventually and move it to the right pipeline, meaning that it gets tracked from there on in, but there are no guarantees.randomuser wrote: ↑05 Jan 2023, 16:18This may have context as to where it maybe held up? If the sender had posted it properly, they would be able to make a claim by now. As it is, not sure if AnPost would honour the claim.randomuser wrote: ↑05 Jan 2023, 16:18Anyway, do you think this is lost? I am basically counting it as lost and I'm sick of thinking about it.
If this is something that you bought you should be making a claim from the seller.

I think it is "lost" in the sense that it has taken long enough that the sender could in theory claim for loss of the parcel (if we ignore that they didn't post it properly).
Whether it was actually lost, seized by customs, the address label fell off etc. is neither important nor knowable.

It's not crazy to think that posting a pre-paid labelled item into a post box would be fine. I'm quite shocked that could prevent a parcel being delivered. It was a gift so nothing malicious from my friend the seller.Snaggletooth wrote: ↑06 Jan 2023, 17:28I think it is "lost" in the sense that it has taken long enough that the sender could in theory claim for loss of the parcel (if we ignore that they didn't post it properly).

Posting something in the wrong box *in the UK* would not affect whether an item arrived or not. It would affect how it was handled, including the level of tracking that the item received.
I am assuming that An Post are identical to Royal Mail in these respects, but it is just an assumption.
