Where does this idea that the union will pay you something while on strike come from? Is it ye olden times? It was even repeated on BBC News the other day when reporting on the rail strikes, they actually said people are paid £50 per day by the union when on strike. No union could afford that, it’s nonsense.

I’ve no idea what planet you are from. All unions pay strike pay.. apart from ours!!! This is yet another example of why this website is the worst of the worst for saying crap.

Can you provide the source that all unions provide strike pay apart from the CWU? I've tried finding a list, but nothing comes up. So far as I'm aware the RMT have a hardship fund, like the CWU, but I've seen nothing saying strikers automatically receive a payment per day from their union. The first I heard of unions paying strikers was Unite. Unite is a union that represents workers across many different sectors and different industries. This means they can afford the cost of strike pay, as rarely all members are out on strike. If the entire Unite membership were to be all out on strike, I think any idea of strike pay would quickly become a fantasy.

Even the cwu 'hardship' fund is a joke. Hard to access and a humiliating process. They should be more transparent about the money the public has donated because they couldnt save any of the tens of millions of subs paid. Multiple stories of people being unable to access it or being rejected. Abolute joke the whole thing is

Just google various unions and strike pay. UNITE,UNISON,GMB,RMT,ASLEF. They all do it. The aviva bus drivers lost literally pence compared to us for their strike. We used to see them in the pub laughing…

The only ones I can find any mention of strike pay is Unison, Unite, and the link you sent. The others are just landing me results regarding pay offers, and on their sites there's no clear route to finding out what, if any, strike pay there is.

From what I understand from the dustmen in my area they were getting between £50 & £70 or day when they were on strike. IIRC they are part of the GMB Union so again that's one where they have their membership spread across many industries thus making it easier to make strike payments. When we're out it's basically the whole membership out bar some BT workers and a couple of thousand healing wounds, that alone is not going to be enough to pay us for each strike day.

GMB strike pay after 4th day. I had strike pay off CWU once when I lost a full week because of how my days fell but that was a long long time ago.

I know it's probably past its sell by date now, but I've just been listening to Mick Lynch on LBC, he has categorically said there is no strike pay for RMT members, there is a strike fund, like what the CWU has. So, it's not quite every union but ours providing strike pay.
