Give your bloody head a wobble!! Why should people need to show bank statements to prove they need help? :left:

I would it it'd help hawkeye but ... Why shouldn't they? No charitable organisation would just hand out money without someone showing a genuine need. I'm just telling you the procedure that's used, I didn't implement it. :speak to the hand

I know we've all lost a lot of wages due to the Strikes .... and whose to blame for that? What system would you suggest for handing out those Hardship Funds? Just give some money to everyone that phoned in without out any kind of double check? I'm sure that would work fine! :cuppa

Merry Christmas Simon :wave I hope Santa gave you a big bag of coal this year for being a very naughty boy! Enjoy your Harrods Turkey in your warm multi-million pound mansion whilst some of my colleagues sit in a cold house with no presents for their kids under the tree.
Honestly hope this is not true no one should go through that  . Where is the strike fund?
Hope your kids have agreat xmas
Two guys in my DO tried to make use of the strike fund through our rep but to no avail. Needless to say the union letting them down in their time of need had them both back at work on Fri/Sat! Sad to see but I fully support them both!
You are very sadly stuck between a rock and a hard place. The union won't be offering you any financial help, as the post above confirms, and if you're looking at loans/re-mortgages etc then not much (if any) help will come your way there. One of my desperate ex-colleagues tried this during December and was told a flat "no", as she had voluntarily chosen not to work for her employer (by striking) when paid work was available and so therefore was considered too high a risk. Whether that has scuppered her credit rating for future applications, only time will tell.

Strike action does not go on your credit rating. A lot of lenders will make adjustments to payments in times of hardship, it's in their interests, however, doing so may be negatively impact your credit rating.

WTF are you going on about. THERE IS NO STRIKE FUND! 100 000 Posties go on Strike RM stops approx £100 per day for each Striker ... Do the sums... that's a lot of money. No way could the CWU afford to pay that out as "Strike Pay"

Just saying - CWU ask for donations to a "STRIKE FUND" on the CWU website and Twitter page. Perhaps they should call
it something different to avoid people getting the wrong idea.

or you know... actually give it out to struggling members instead of people being ignored. Even on twitter and live feeds they skim over the strike fund question like its not to be mentioned. More transparency is needed

Where does this idea that the union will pay you something while on strike come from? Is it ye olden times? It was even repeated on BBC News the other day when reporting on the rail strikes, they actually said people are paid £50 per day by the union when on strike. No union could afford that, it’s nonsense.

I’ve no idea what planet you are from. All unions pay strike pay.. apart from ours!!! This is yet another example of why this website is the worst of the worst for saying crap.

It’s really odd that on this site for work colleagues, a person can’t say no, you’re wrong, without being personally insulting.

I’ve only been in one union, the CWU, so the idea of a union paying you £50 when on strike sounds ludicrous to me.

The CWU take 29 million a year in subs apparently but there is no chance of strike fund because they spend every penny including 2.4 million on stationary, no strikes for 13 years so a fund could possibly have been made for these eventualities and other unions do pay strike money and yes they have less members but I still believe we could have a rainy day fund

Maybe go to happy clappy courier land then… I agree I maybe shouldn’t have been so insulting but a simple google should have answered your question. By the way it’s £70 strike pay at unite (the managers union).

That would amount to around £8m per strike day and we’ve been on strike 9days? 8 days? Don’t see how any union could sustain that level of payout.

Can you provide the source that all unions provide strike pay apart from the CWU? I've tried finding a list, but nothing comes up. So far as I'm aware the RMT have a hardship fund, like the CWU, but I've seen nothing saying strikers automatically receive a payment per day from their union. The first I heard of unions paying strikers was Unite. Unite is a union that represents workers across many different sectors and different industries. This means they can afford the cost of strike pay, as rarely all members are out on strike. If the entire Unite membership were to be all out on strike, I think any idea of strike pay would quickly become a fantasy.
