Fair point but I'm not sure the risk is 128,000 people. Surely it's those triggering the 12 week period on Saturday that are at risk? Given it's a non working day for a lot of people and others will attend work on a Sat anyway isn't the vulnerable number a lot less?

What is this 12 week thing....

Is it anything to do with the number of days you have been on strike for? or if the first day you went on strike and the last day you went on strike amounted to striking over a 12 week period...or something else?

Royal Mail would have to give a warning wouldn’t they or how would people know? They’d have to come out with a statement “if you strike on Friday you are in breach of contract and you will be dismissed” surely?

I think that it’s the union who should be giving out the warning has it’s the union who have been calling the strikes.

After 12 weeks, you can be dismissed if you take industrial action and your employer has tried to settle the dispute. For example, your employer may bring in advisers from Acas to help find a solution.


They have brought in Acas, but it seems they are only halfway through with those talks. The talks are going somewhere even if it is just words and Royal Mail can't be trusted until it's written into an agreement.

How could they sack people and say 'we tried to settle via Acas' when the talks are still in progress and both sides are seemingly taking steps forward.

Honestly this is starting to give me massive anxiety and worry now it’s upon us. Forgive me for not trusting the Cwu’s expert legal team but something doesn’t feel right. Why did Thompson have an absolute insistence on using ACAS? It certainly wasn’t to reach an agreement. Most likely it was to show he’s used a mediator to try settle this so he has the option of sacking and rehiring after the 12 weeks.
Seriously considering crossing the picket line on Saturday if we don’t have a cast iron guarantee from the union.
the union should cancel Saturdays strike is my thinking now.
