Missing 'Special Delivery Guaranteed Next Day By 1 PM'

Good morning all,

I have done my upmost to follow-up on a special delivery guaranteed delivery envelope posted on Thursday 15th December (ref: SF963636464GB) Postcode: ME2 3BY.

All efforts are made in vain, the track and trace simply returns with the message “Sorry, we're currently unable to confirm the status of your item with reference SF963636464GB . Please try again tomorrow.”.

This has been ongoing since the date of postage.
I have become worried over the weekend that this package has been lost in transit.

With the cut-off for Special Delivery postage listed as tomorrow Thursday 22nd I have doubts I will receive my parcel at all.

Could anyone provide me with support on this matter?
All and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is ME2 the senders postcode or the receivers intended destination please ?

Also i thought that SPD were no longer guaranteed - but I'm not sure if and when that was introduced ( i thought i heard this recently).

I will quickly check.

I'm sure that its not lost, but just working its way through the system backlog.
We've had a lot of SPD enquiries recently, and its not clear if they are being scanned at every point on their journey.

Noticing the stamp top right makes me wonder how you posted it, which could be part of the problem. Did you:

Hand it over at a PO branch or RM delivery office and get a proof of posting?

Place it direct into the mail yourself, e.g. dropped it into a post box.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post.
I was not aware that there were currently mishaps reguarding the scanning of SPD parcels, you are most probably right that this is the case and that my item has simply not been scanned.

On the Thursday I had been instructed to obtain a special delivery envelope so that I could receive in the post my renewed passport.

The advice at the time was to photograph this shipment number for personal reference. The collegue at the Italian consulate of London then proceeded to enclose my new passport within this envelope and place it at a Royal Mail collection point within the office.

My only assurance has been what I have witnessed with my own eyes as the Consulate collegue having arranged for the post in the proper manner.

At the time of posting I was assured my item would arrive within the next week at the latest this evening but no joy as of yet.

However I do believe you are correct and that Royal mail had removed this guarantee some days ago.

I believe the cut-off suggested was in fact todays date Wednesday 21st December for any SPD post.

So how do you know that the Consulate have put it in the mail? It is quite normal to give consulates pre-paid envelopes etc for use when returning documents later, but until they put it in the mail it definitely won't get a scan.

Hi TBT,

After having spoken with the superintendent he assured me the parcel had been dispatched the week before and that he would follow this on my behalf - I was happily surprised to receive my travel documents and mail arrived a few hours after he called me back to confirm it was in transit.
