Post Office Now Accepts Tracked Labels?

Post by WuMyster »

Many years ago I remember trying a tracked label and was told these could only be taken by CSPs. I know that tracked return labels from retailers have worked at post offices

Apparently POs now accept tracked labels, Is this correct? There seems to be conflicting information as the main Click & Drop page says you can drop tracked labels at POs but after purchasing the label, a message says parcels can be dropped at POs as long as they're not tracked.

I think officially they should accept them. However, with the pre-printed labels, the local Post Office itself gets no payment for processing them, as they would do if you went to the counter and got them to print the label. Also, not all Post Offices have the space to store them before collection. For both those reasons, I think some POs are "Allowed" to not process them.

Seems like you’re right. Got turned away from two post offices saying their machines don’t accept tracked labels…

They accept “Tracked Returns”, which are labels provided by retailers and eBay for returning items. Some labels even have the text “PO please scan this barcode” on them.

Tracked 24 and 48 bought on the website/app they officially don’t accept. I assume their system would recognise the bar codes though so they COULD accept them with or without an “accepted” scan if they chose to. Probably a local policy.

As an update, that's not the info I was given from Royal Mail or Post Office. Both have said that post offices are now supposed to accept Tracked labels, regardless of if they are return labels or purchased via RM.

PO were so apologetic, that they are sending me what seems to be a £10 voucher? I only asked for information and did not even complain. The PO rep asked me for the branches so that they could forward the message internally that they are to accept them.

"the local Post Office itself gets no payment for processing them" but they can make a few pence by offering a proof of posting which they invariably do.
