SPECIAL DELIVERY - NO UPDATES!!

On Saturday 10th I posted a medium parcel by Special Delivery: SE115795177GB

Today there is no update other than it was accepted at the local post office. By now it should have been scanned at the Swindon mail centre - at the very least!! In fact it should already have been delivered.

I asked the customer services people on the phone and got the usual 'I'm sorry' etc. No further information.

Can anyone help me?

I'm sure your item will be scanned somewhere by someone in the near future.

You may have seen the recent photos of stuff piling up outside mail centres all around the country ?

Does RG12 post go to Swindon Mail Centre to be processed or is Swindon the intended delivery area ?

We had Special delivery items mixed in with the Bulk this morning, so could this have been replicated elsewhere.

There's quite a few special delivery enquiries at the moment.

The item is going to an address in Leicester. Swindon is the designated mail centre for my geographical area, which is Berkshire. We used to get mail sorted in Reading but that one closed, so everything now goes to Swindon for some strange reason.
I am aware that there are delays but I had hoped that SD items would be prioritised; I also sent a couple of tracked 48 items and they are already in transit.

That was a money saving exercise I guess as RM cancelled a whole shift.

The same happened around here, everything now goes 45 miles away.

According to their daily update Swindon MC had issues processing all mail today so they are probably swamped with post.
It will get scanned at some point but difficult to say when exactly.
I got a special delivery that hasn't been scanned in yet from yesterday but I am hopeful it will be in the next few days.

My concern is that it hasn't even been scanned at Swindon, just the initial scan when it was given to my local PO in Bracknell on Saturday. I know Sunday was also a strike day but even so.
I'm pretty much sweating under the collar as it was a pretty high value item.

I've heard some items are not even being scanned so they can be processed quicker.
I'm 100% sure your item is at the mail centre waiting to be processed and scanned under a pile of other post.

There is something strange going on with Special Deliveries, I sort parcels in the morning and we had loads just in normal mail.

It's something that should not happen and its causing delays in the processing of Special Deliveries and tracked as we have to separate them.

Royal Mail does need modernising, but not the posties themselves, but how the network processes items, when they lump it together like this it causes delays further down the line, it causes customer complaints, and it causes more claims to put in.

It's strange that two Tracked 48 items posted last Saturday have been delivered and my SD package hasn't even got a mail centre scan! Very worrying. It was a fairly big parcel, but surely this shouldn't have mattered.

I think it is possible your Special Delivery has ended up with 2C parcels and consequently at the back of the list of priorities.
Tracked items, with a big T on them, are now more visible than some SDs. Special Deliveries used to all have a SD sticker. Now it is sometimes only a small barcode that distinguishes them from normal post. It is easy to miss.

CCR, a Special Delivery collected from a Post office should really remain as a SPD all the way through the system and be kept separated from all of the other items collected.
