Oh yes Guv, I'm well happy for you to cut my Full-time duty down to a Part-Time 35-hour week when flexibility comes in. Yes Guv, I agree 100% that because I've demonstrated an ability to finish well within my hours, I'm obviously being paid for too many hours, so I'd love to participate in your cost-saving scheme. And what's that ? You'll pass 1p/week into my wages via the Employee Share Of Savings (ESOS) scheme ? Oh, but wasn't that closed to give me a £175 bribe to vote for that crap pay deal ????

I bet if your local Tesco ran out of milk you'd volunteer to drive to their supplier and pick some up for 'em, on the basis that it would save you time and them money.

A fool and his money are easily parted.

I thought i would pop back in n see if old trollwithnobrains had carried on and WOT DO YA KNOW??? HE HAS... :left:

I know this fella is just a blind fool,, in my opinion and what ever anybody said with a differ of opinion then he wanted Concrete proof of making him wrong... Which on a website like this with OPINIONS is just not happening and the fact he just went on like a broken record...

In everyones heart of heart we know how the job SHOULD be done and we also know Using a car is WRONG... WRONG because the job is judged and worked out for WALKING . The only contentious part is the Getting to your first Letter Point???? But using a car as a bag drop and place to carry ALL OR PART of your walk is WRONG... It cuts the job up.. Thats as far as anyone can go to show cantypeBUTSHOUTS that its just WRONG... WHAT part of Cutting the job up dont you understand sonny???

The time it takes and the amount of mail a postie can take by car and not notice the time passed to deliver it is on some walks 2 for 1 letter... So a walking postie will have to keep up with CAR USING POSTIE when they walk the same walk.... It pressures the postie doing the job the proper way....

SELFISH BASTARDS!!!

Doing the job by the book does work in OUR favour.. FACT... POSTMAN AND BURSLEM AND KK's DO and some others work to the 318 with vans accellerating them to there walks and there in a FACT makes another JOB.. Not losing time from the Posties but RM have to put in more time to there budget.

DONT THAT MAKE SOME SENSE????

IF NOT THEN YOUR A LOST CASE... Lock the brain dead doughnut up n give him the Allan Leighton Bumper book of running a business.. IF he aint already read it?????

OUT :Boo hoo!

Cars on Delivery Part 10058

Post by wdo1256 »

Just feel like a rant on the matter

I haven't used my car since October 07. The CWU asked people not to use thier cars for a day of action and a few of us didn't. We were dragged into the office and told that if we didn't use our car on that day we would never be allowed to use our car ever again.
Since that day I have never been allowed to use my car. I must amit their has been times when I have wanted to go back to my car, When it's pissing down, you see people getting out when I have to wait up to one hour for my lift.
I also don't get any fare money unless I produce a bus ticket. This doesn't apply if you use your car in our office. There is a greivence going through regarding this issue. Also I can't do any overtime on other walks. To make sure that nobody does go back to their cars someone was done for using their car without permission.

The plus points are that I go over most days claiming a bit of overtime, The other people in the same boat as me have formed a small groovy gang. If I need to finish on time a manager has to drive me to my delivery. I don't have to rush around like the world is going to end just to make few minutes. I know that it will be hard for them to try to add extra delivery points on to my duty.

The trick is that if you know that you aren't going to make as much time as what you did a couple of years ago then you don't need to use your car.

Our office has about 60 - 70 duties and the latest cull is going to be 6 jobs. The simple matter is that if we didn't use our cars on delivery then there would not be 6 Jobs going. We might even get extra duties as we have one (put on) driver to take up 4 - 7 of us each day and he has to wait till everyone is ready.

All men/women are born equal, in Royal Mail nobody is equal just favourites.

well if you want to do that then go ahead as my argument was about posties using there car as a mobile drop bag [not supposed to do that, didn't know that]

what you are doing is saving time, for yourself, however if you think that as you say no one minds or cares what time you come back, we have gone though georoute about 3 months ago, they do know what times people are taking to do the rounds, all this means is the time you save by taking your car they will see this and add it to your round

As for the GPS thing well i don't know about you being able to or not being able to see where you are on the round at a given time, but what i have heard is that RM is saying "will be able to see where your packet is on delivery" this may or may not be the case, but what i do know the GPS i use can be downloaded on return and you can see where you are at any given time and any stops taken, avg speed etc

so would be nice to know if they can download the GPS data on return, anyone know? or just the data for specials etc?
read the thread.......i dont use my car at all...... but that doesnt mean some time in the future i might wont to use it to get my round over fast to go somwhere in the afternoon... :arrrghhh
You won't be able to finish your round early after flexibility is implemented. Remember Adam Crozier saying "All we want is our people to work the hours we pay them for." You will work the hours that your employer, RM, demand you work. If you are due to finish at, let's say 13,15, you will not be able to finish before 13.15. The point that we have been trying to make is that if people use their cars before flexibility is implemented, management will have worked out rightly or wrongly, how much extra each duty should have on it. Using your car now to save half an hour or more will lead to an extra half hour or more being added to the duty. Surely no-one still believes RM do not intend to save as much money as possible while loading posties down with more and more. In a few years it will be 5 and 6 hour deliveries with 10, 11, 12 bags. If you cannot see this try removing your blinkers. We're not making this up.

Spot on - In my opinion Royal Mail has a major problem with people making time on the job. But what they have choose to ignore is that the only reason that people made time was mainly by using their cars.

I used to make time by using my car. I finish early twice a week by about 20mins the rest of the week I finish late and book (even if it is 10 minutes), Also most walks don't have enough drop points as they have been geared towards people using their cars.

I have one drop point on my walk and use another near by. I spend/waste a lot of time going to and from these points.

I honestly cannot believe that you have not heard of the flexibility as it was such a contentious issue during and after the strikes last year.

I don't recall making any post where it could be implied that I want something for nothing. I work for Royal Mail and they pay me for the hours I work, that is where my loyalty to RM ends. Yes I am in the union, and like most union members I am more concerned about the decline of the service that RM are forcing us to deliver, than about my own personal situation, although most on here would agree that the decline in the service we provide and the decline in our terms and conditions are linked to RM's desire to run the company down in preparation for privatisation. You obviously don't see any problem with using a private car for deliveries, but this is just one more attempt by RM to cut costs and the service. I won't repeat the arguments against this as you've already decided you are right and everyone else is wrong.

In your next post you ask how a manager would know if you finished 30 minutes early. As 'job and finish' will end with the introduction of the local flexibility agreements, it is to be assumed that we would then have to travel back to the DO to finish our duty.

My original posting on this debate from quite a few months ago concerned the fact that RM have different rules for different areas. We have been told, for about the past 12 months that it was NOT Kent area policy for private cars to be used for the transportation of mail in any circumstances. Different areas have different policies, some people were being forced to use their own cars, some were being prevented from doing so.

I would ask you to provide some evidence that if people used their own cars, it would not cause job losses. I will not be drawn into a slagging match, you keep inferring that you want a reasoned debate, let's debate.
