1 dude has just said Royal Mail don't want letters at all.

this dude thinks Royal Mail will keep letters but thinks they can twist the government's leg so that they can do whatever they like with the USO....whether that's a 3 day letter service or what....


At the end of the day I guess the Union don't really know where it's potentially going, but they will definitely have some idea. I'd love to ask Dave Ward if he thinks there's a good possibility that letters gets taken on by the government again or maybe they at least subsidise the service as long as Royal Mail stick to the 6 day service.

I don't think anyone would think that a Conservative government that wails about the amount of debt and underfunding that the past Conservative governments have saddled us with (not that they phrase it that way . . . world events, all that bollocks) would be keen to subsidise even part of a company that they were glad to see hoofed into the private sector to be asset stripped.
Were the government to step in, I think we'd end up viewing ST's 'best and final offer' as something wonderful by comparison.

Why do you think the government wants to spend a penny on royal mail when they can just loosen the uso and it's not costing them a thing .

What was worrying about that update is that it seemed the union was willing to cancel strikes this week for very little guarantees in return. Doesn’t bode well for any future agreement that may be agreed, that’s if there even will be a deal. Seems Royal Mail will just plough on come what may.

No new strike dates . They said about a re ballot in January, Does that mean the union is unsure that we are legaly protected after the 23 rd / 24th .

Now only if every one done this, royal mail would have to think twice. Royal mail for many years has relied on most folk to do overtime especially at this time of the year.

Problem is if we keep on trying to clear the backlog only to win a few pennies and some brownie points for the manager's then this dispute will last longer.

As I keep saying - I'll be open to working as a Postie for the government even if I was on current pay and terms.

I have a feeling there would be a mass exodus of everyone with over 10 years service if that was an option.

The company have abused the USO for years now , OFCOM have been missing in action and it's only going to get worse surely. They will gradually restructure the workforce with the owner driver model depleting local DOs in the process and it will become the norm for a duty to be delivered 3 days a week maximum due to the stretched resources.
