Come January/February if no deal has been reached it's likely many will lose faith in striking. At that point is the union done for?
I'm sure they will still have their role in helping us in our everyday office disputes but what happens if many people stop striking in January. Will it lead to them falling apart?
For the dispute to be over, more than 50% will have to vote in favour of accepting the surrender deal. I can't see that happening, but if it does then there will be no union - even to help with what you describe as everyday office disputes.
People need to realise that if they accept the surrender deal then they are also accepting every single change that currently only exist in Thompson's wet dreams. He will be free to drop our wages to minimum wage and change our terms and conditions as and when he sees fit. We will be unable to ever oppose him again as he will know that RM is staffed mainly by surrender monkeys who will drop any industrial action if he doesn't immediately give in.
Agree with everything you said. No union would be bleak times. I meant without voting though. Say if people just grow tired of striking & the numbers not showing up slowly increases. Seems like that would signal the end without a vote taking place or maybe they will have to accept the deal.
Hopefully it won't come to that. The union may have a few things planned to push Rm further.

If they have plans, sure as hell would have been nice for them to have implemented them months ago! Like saving a big gun until half your infantry have been killed off .
Royal Mail actually need the union, they may not want to make agreements with them but they need them. Everything we do comes from collective bargaining, if there was no union to bargain with and do deals with then they would have to deal with 115,000 people individually.
Being facetious as usual there Clash. Remember they’ve just got a deal for BT/OpenReach too. I suspect you already knew that, though.
How is it being facetious?
Going back 10 years as a rep we were constantly told to ensure new members were introduced to the union to ensure the long term independence of the CWU.
Wasn't part of the rationale behind the coup that removed Billy Hayes and installed Ward the need to make savings at HQ and rationalise departments?
Why is Wimbledon up for sale?
If you think the loss of £2 million/year in subs is of no importance then you may have a rude awakening.
What exactly has the BT deal got to do with it?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
It will be April before we know it so a year of 2% and I maybe wrong but wasn't it 1% the year before....
You know year 2 of half the country hiding behind their sofas and us being 2nd class citizens (keyworkers) delivering not only endless amounts of crap but 750 million pounds plus in profits?
It's all the terms and conditions changes that need to go and how about a 10% payrise from April seeing as it's not being backdated.
RM need to realise that the offer is a fantasy. The workforce is too large for there not to be an acceptable agreement on both sides. There must be some key names in that board room or shareholders who are against ST and his proposals. I would be amazed if there's no clashing of egos and visions behind closed doors. Do the right thing. We all know lower level managers agree to anything and will not resist even though deep down they know the proposals are very wrong. This fantasy needs to be quashed. They know we arnt being unreasonable, we just want a fair deal

No collective bargaining at Amazon. They simply tell their employees how its going to be, which is exactly what Thompson wants at RM.

I agree with this, on the whole, Schiff, but it's worth a mention that even Amazon is changing. I believe workers in Coventry, represented by the GMB, have recently voted for IA. I think the report I read, said it the first IA, in the UK, against Amazon.
The Good News is ... Even the Strike Breakers are still paying Union Fees!
The BIGGEST SB in my office is a CWU member ..... when the Rep stopped him on the picket line early on in this dispute he said he's resign from the Union. But he's still in it, paying his subs, because he's scared that one day he's going to get caught out on his dodgy work practices and RM will try and Discipline him .... Then he's going to coming looking for some support from the Union Ha Ha !
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

And,the union will have to give him that support as he is a paid up member. He should at least quit the union if he crosses the line.
It wont just be over for the union, it will also be over for us as well! (By that I mean, having a job and pay that anyway resembles what we have now).
