Interesting. Can you make a graph for letter (including large letters) for the last 5 years? As I personally disagree with the idea that mail volumes are falling rapidly now, the “lower hanging fruit” went a few years ago with the GDRP thing, but I am sure I deliver more letters, advertising catalogs and magazines than I did a few years back. Maybe it’s the change of area and the the round I am on.
I found that graph through a link on this forum back in 2012, so it was dated even then and I don't know the original source. RM probably hasn't disclosed hard data since privatisation for commercial reasons, though it does claim we're back in the 30s in terms of letter volume.

I just wanted to mock the idea that the decline has "accelerated since the advent of email" since it very clearly rockets upward through the 80s and 90s.
The machine stops.

It’s here. On my phone there’s a “pay wall” but works alright on my iPad. Letters up from last year. Parcels down from last year but higher than any previous year.

"In the financial year ending March 2022, Royal Mail delivered just below eight billion letters without including the election letters."

Quickly made this last night, bluntly extrapolating in a straight line from the last annual figures and lining that up with the 1930s claim.
