Re: Breaking point
Are those crossing the picket lines genuinely struggling ie: can’t buy any food, put on heating, pay the mortgage/rent or are they doing it to be able to continue to fund their lifestyle? Someone in my office is going in AND working their day off yet they go on holiday 3 times a year and have a 71 plate car!!

Re: Breaking point
If you can't afford to strike then you definitely can't afford to be made compulsory redundant in a mere 4 months time.

Re: Breaking point
It's interesting to me that strikebreakers are also getting their days off in but someone who strikes does not get asked. Is this not discrimination?GRS wrote: ↑01 Dec 2022, 07:00Are those crossing the picket lines genuinely struggling ie: can’t buy any food, put on heating, pay the mortgage/rent or are they doing it to be able to continue to fund their lifestyle? I'm not encouraging people to work their days off but is this another dirty tactic in place ?

Re: Breaking point
I've gone through most the thread. I can understand both sides. What I can't understand is that people still believe Royal Mail bosses will be defeated, any deal agreed will just postpone our t&c's agony. I bet many will disagree, some may call me a manager.
What would you say to people in their 20s,30s or 40s who have 30-40years left before retirement. Only narrow minded people won't see it through. This is job is barely worth having as it is now, in 5years time it may not even exist given how it is managed and what they can get away with. Unions in this country are powerless and their hands are tied. The minimum wage is catching up rapidly and we aren't far above it. The job is very demanding physically and mentally too (thanks to mismanagement and bullying), bullying very much visible amongst us, fellow posties too. It is such a toxic place to be at the moment. You have despicable senior management, spineless line management and living in bygone era, bitter bullying colleagues.
Younger generation is encouraged in a way to break the strikes. Go in, survive the next 2-3months and just jack it in. I mean what is the point of ruining your finances, credit score just to be made redundant anyway or to get a cr*p deal and face the same battle a year later? There is no future at royal mail. I think it is time to accept that.

Re: Breaking point
We are and have been benefiting from others sacrifices, all those union members and hard workers in the past that stuck together in perhaps tougher times than these to form unions and not backdown. We owe it to them and our work colleagues today to stay united. I sympathise with those really struggling but there are means to seek help and until those are exhausted stay out and fight. I am having to dip into savings and cut back on food, heating, entertainment and motoring to get by and will not cross a picket line.anTi wrote: ↑30 Nov 2022, 16:42These strike breakers will only be too happy to benefit from any gains that result from strike action. You can see the anguish they're are going through. Speaking to them it was very hard for me to feel any sort of anger towards them crossing the picket line.
Peoples savings are getting exhausted, mental health being kicked from pillar to post. You can talk about the future but for many its about the here and now.
So Royal Mail AND the CWU get this sorted, please. There is no excuse, never ever cross a picket line .
Me and my wife both work for RM and I agree the financial strain is tough and causing issues but there is no excuse for going in![]()

Re: Breaking point
I had a very distressing conversation with a colleague a few weeks ago and it is not on to try and intimidate anyone struggling to keep their head above water at the minute, it would need a huge pay rise to cover the wages already lost, interest rates increased their mortgage by £160, then there is all the other increases gas food etc and being a payday away from losing your home is not selfish, it's fear Not everyone is managing the loss and if someone ends their life because of strike bullying then NO it is not worth it. Walk in someone else's shoes and have a bit of empathy the word scab is out of order and a repeat of the miners turmoil is not the answerFilthyBloke wrote: ↑30 Nov 2022, 16:50supermandan2018 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2022, 16:48And if it was up to me, bullies like you would be the 1st ones out the door, you live in a bygone error where you think intimidation and bullying is okay but bi**h and moan when Royal Mail bullies and harassess?? No-one is being intimidated or bullied into striking.
Strike breakers may be ignored, ostracised, refused help and co-operation from colleagues etc.
But it's up to everyone to choose. Whether that's a choice about crossing a picket line, or a choice about whether to be nice to strike breaking parasites.

If we lose this dispute, my gut feeling is that RM will try and remove ALL allowances including shift and function ones. How will they manage if that ever happens?cakefish wrote: ↑01 Dec 2022, 19:57I had a very distressing conversation with a colleague a few weeks ago and it is not on to try and intimidate anyone struggling to keep their head above water at the minute, it would need a huge pay rise to cover the wages already lost, interest rates increased their mortgage by £160, then there is all the other increases gas food etc and being a payday away from losing your home is not selfish, it's fear Not everyone is managing the loss and if someone ends their life because of strike bullying then NO it is not worth it.
