Royal Mail 24 Large Letter

Post by Business15 »

Hi there,

I am just wondering with all the postmen striking and causing chaos for small businesses like myself, is RM 24 standard Large Letters (not tracked) being prioritised or is it only Parcels?

Any advice would be welcome.

Hi there Business.

Do you not think that we are striking for a good cause, at the moment we really have no alternative.

No RM 24 LL are not prioritised, only tracked and Special items.

You could let Simon Thompson know how you feel, your grievance should be directed to him.

Tracked and Specials have taken priority since Covid started (or longer), the strike makes little difference to letters being an annoyance that the company are hoping will go away.

As above, ask the CEO why he lies so much about "every letter is important to us" when posties are told to leave them behind. You are a small business so the CEO and company policy aren't bothered about you.

But if you want to blame posties for trying to highlight these issues then carry on.

I think you are really jumping to conclusions here, i have not wrote anything to say "i blame posties", their is no need for the abuse directed to myself?

I am simply asking a question?

It is going to cause chaos for small upcoming businesses that are trying to survive, so what was wrong with typing the truth?

To answer your question, if the CEO does not care about small businesses then there is always Evri which will match the price of RM 24 LL or Deutche Post or Whistl or Yodel that will also undercut RM.

Please may someone report if their is any backlog of RM 48 or RM 24 Large letter size please or if either is running nearly on time?

Also is their a reason why RM 48 LL 50% of them never get scanned as delivered, but all RM 24 LL get scanned as delivered?

Thank you.

I would imagine there's quite a large backlog, as the machines for LL's would have been turned off for two strike days, but my colleagues at the Mail Centres would know more.

Regard scanning - as a post-person it is imperative to scan everything with a barcode or 2d code at each delivery point. (unless it's raining, in which case the scanner doesn't work).

Saturday was pretty busy and I'm expecting Monday & Tuesday to be even busier.

So does RM 24 LL with delivery confirmation only, take priority over RM 48 LL delivery confirmation only?

Thanks.

By the time the item gets to a delivery office there would be no priority for any type of letter. Regardless of them being 24 or 48, all letters would be at the bottom of the list in terms of importance of delivery.

Special Deliveries, Tracked items, collection items, parcels, packets and work for another duty would all take priority over all letters. And if there is time for letters to be delivered, it would be certain roads or areas that the postie had time to do, everything would be in bundles and the class of postage (24/48/1st/2nd) would not be looked at.

In terms of delivery confirmation, a postie would pretty much scan any item with a barcode. The postie would not only scan any type of item over another. If you are finding that RM24 are getting delivery confirmation and RM48 are tending not to then I would start to wonder if the system cannot handle the quantity of scans and is dropping what are effectively the lowest level of scanned items. Or there is a bug in the system that isn't uploading the confirmation.

RM24 and RM48 have equal priority once they've reach the inward MC. The difference between the two is when they get dispatched from the outward MC to the inward MC
