So they said though parcelforce have been shafted many a time by cwu putting rm first.

It’s nothing to do with letting people walk over you. It’s just a fact that the employer always holds the trump card. Look back in history, when has an employer ever chucked their business plan out the window in favour of a union’s proposal. Yet reading on here that is what people seem to expect should happen in this case. Have a look at recent disputes…….British Gas & Asda employees spring to mind in facing the same changes to T&C that we do. What happened? They put up a fight and inevitably ended up with pretty much the same deal that was proposed at the start of the dispute albeit with some extra bonce thrown in. This “I’m staying out forever, I’m gonna smash the company up etc etc” that spills from these pages is unrealistic and won’t happen. Face it and accept it!!! It’s a “game” of brinkmanship, we have to get out with the best we can, the key is knowing when that is. Let’s just hope for all our sakes that the CWU hierarchy know when that time is and act responsibly and appropriately.

The general sentiment bar a few is the 'hope' that the strikes are cancelled. But people are not really talking about the deal on offer and what happens afterwards; they simply do not want the strikes but no going to break the strikes.

What does that really tell us? For me, it says we have become a hostage of the CWU while being screwed by Royal Mail...I'll rather not be a hostage! The devil you know and all that.

Can’t say I’ve read much of the above & have ignored most of CWU rambles, I’m going all out to help Simon destroy Royal Mail, I’ve switched off, they will now get the minimum effort from me, tracked & two loops per day looks like the future, I can handle that, looked @ nursing home in my frame that’s not been out since last Thursday, there’s 15 odd hospital appointment letters & 7 birthday cards, can’t see them going out tomorrow & after the 2 strike days maybe Saturday? Could be Monday or Tuesday, could be dead before they receive them, used to be bothered, now I do not give a flying f**k, Simon do what you f***ing like it no longer matters, I’m sure I speak for 80 90% of the staff? f**k em, life’s to short.

Why would you not make sure the nursing home is delivered??? Fs, you may not give a f**k but come on, catch yourself on!!

Maybe because he doesn’t have time. I’ve been in similar situations where I’ve done all the tracked as instructed by management then I only have time for a handful of addresses.

On one particular day on a rural duty I had just 10 mins left after doing tracked/specials/boxes/collection, I had to make a choice to deliver between:

1. The street that I’m parked next to that will take me 10mins to deliver to, they put in an official complaint they haven’t had anything all week and my boss has said try and deliver there

Or

2. Old Ethel who lost her husband last month, has an NHS letter about her cancer screening which she told me she’s expecting and lives all the way down a farm track that takes 5 minutes to get down and 5 minutes back up.

Or

3. The old people’s home who have birthdays, doctor appointments etc but again it’s a 5 min drive away.

Or

4. One of the local farms that the other reserves can’t find, and I know the farmer is driving around the village looking for me to give me a peace of his mind. He’s got a huge pile of letters with invoices in.

The very fact that customers have other choices is what will win this dispute for us if we stay strong.

What good will Thompson's proposed changes do if RM has no customers other than those obliged to use RM to send loss making letters?
