The honest answer is so few people come to us, because we're an island off mainland Europe. And you're supposed to claim asylum in the first safe country you reach, we're harder to get to.

Don't know quite what you mean by that but I guess it's not genuine. He's a self employed plumber, worked bloody hard for it, now thanks to Brexit he can't spend time there whenever he wants, or go to live there.
They should be taxing those that were furloughed an extra 2% or so. . If they were furloughed for two years then they should be paying that extra tax for 2yrs. If it was for 1yr then they pay for 1yr and so forth.

Today's budget - Benefits and pensions 10.1% increase - is that now the starting point for any wage increase ? (pensions i understand, but why increase benefits ?)

I see you say that you joined RM later so you have no idea what it was like in the early days of covid when we were all s**t scared to touch gateposts and door handles with no sanitizer available. When there were more pushbikes on the road through the furloughed brigade than there were cars. My next door neighbour works for himself. Told me he could easily have worked, but furloughed himself so he could sit on his arse and get paid.

I never chose to be furloughed. I never chose to be made redundant. I could have sat on job seekers. I chose a frontline role. I worked hard for RM during the pandemic. I supported family members who worked in the NHS and family members who got very ill. I earned a lot less money through no fault of my own so you can stick your 2% up your entitled letterbox.
