Re: WTF is going on
I thought to change the minimum requirements of the USO, OFCOM had to conduct a review, and then give their recommendations to the cabinet minister in charge of OFCOM. I also thought last time they did that, they stuck with the 6 days letter service.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑15 Nov 2022, 17:21It's not part of the remit of the CWU to agree to a change in the USO.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑15 Nov 2022, 15:38The CWU wont be agreeing to reducing the USO to 5 days a week right now ( needs government to do that anyway )
They have a voice like us all and can make some noise but they don't have a veto... but yes it does need a (surprisingly small) change of legislation which with the wind behind you could be done in a couple of days.
Thankfully the government is busy with its own shitshow right now.

Seems to be locked in till 2027. Unless another review is called. OFCOM's remit is to protect the sustainability of the postal service. They think the status quo should stay in place till 2027.

Thankfully because I selfishly like having a job not what I think the kids now refer to as a side hustle.
Why are you desperate to turn Royal Mail into an "efficient and profitable parcels company"?
The UK already has more than enough of those.
Another DPD clone is hardly an innovative business plan.
I'm out.

Was more shocked you hoped Vesa or someone would take over and lower your former colleagues wages and T&C's ...

Quite bizarre that you apparently don't see the need for RM to be an efficient and profitable company and instead think it can carry on indefinitely using anachronistic work practices to provide an increasingly irrelevant ''service''
Delivering barely profitable letters to every address 6 days a week at massive cost which also impacts on the standard of service RM could otherwise offer with the parcel side of the business is an innovative plan is it?
you really having been taking the CWU Kool aid, and we all know where obediently drinking the Kool aid gets you...

Well its either that or no job at all if you want your precious USO ''service'' to be preserved in it's current form.

I'm sure you remember that the O in USO is for obligation. That's an obligation to all the people, businesses and services of this country. An obligation! The one condition that the business model should be built around. Everything else the entirety of IDS/RM do is secondary to this. So yeah...precious.

Re: WTF is going on
We're regulated like a postal service, because we are a postal service.
The minimum requirements of the USO, are locked in by law. If those are to change, it's the regulators job to give that recommendation (and they haven't). They periodically review this, to ensure the financial sustainability of the USO.
Unfortunately for Royal Mail, that's just what you have to deliver if you are the Universal Service Provider. Whether or not it would be more profitable just to ignore that obligation.
I'm sure nobody here thinks that 6 days letters will continue indefinitely. But it's not Royal Mail's call, no matter who runs it or owns it.

Re: WTF is going on
Just a pity that no-one treats it as an obligation.
