Re: Unagreed trial into a frameless office
Maybe it’ll become a term of the service contract that if a letter is not in a format compatible with the sorting technology then it gets sent back or burnt.

Re: Unagreed trial into a frameless office
I don’t know how it would work but I had seen the the old bench merging videos. Would like to think it’s vastly improved, whatever the solution is.
Stepping away from the dispute and current trial for a moment, you can see that RM2000 frames are not going to be fit for purpose in the future.
1st of all we currently put sequenced mail into a frame, then taking out again. That’s all worked fine, for now.
But where is the future heading?
Letters are declining.
We’re mechanising a higher proportion of what’s left.
Delivery rounds are getting bigger, at best I’ve seen 2 frames + 2 wings for one delivery.
If letter volumes continue to drop as they say they will then we’ll be covering a larger geographical area but lower call rate. That’s when frames become inefficient use of time and floor space. Would need a solution then. We’re definitely not at that point, yet.
Would letter volumes need to drop to such extent that it gets treated like a barcoded parcel?
I.e you just know where it goes on your delivery, put it in a small pouch or scan it into to your RON app manifest.

Re: Unagreed trial into a frameless office
Why not just go back to the 64 box frames and have, say, 15 calls per box?
It worked just fine back in the day when sometimes each box was crammed full.
We still managed to get out in good time.
Then again, the incentive was there.
For the newer bods, this system meant you had to have arms and fingers like an octopus to prep each box of calls in order from top left to bottom right.
In those days those boxes would get seriously full.

Perhaps that should be first step before going frameless, whilst IPS is still a thingDexydog wrote: ↑13 Nov 2022, 21:49Why not just go back to the 64 box frames and have, say, 15 calls per box?

Just imagine when there’s 3 or 4 days worth of letters because the round hasn’t been covered. Trying to bench merge all 4 boxes of letters with flats, small parcels, D2Ds etc. I probably wouldn’t leave the office while midday ‘so which 1 of the 7 loops do you want me to take, boss.’
I hope we all do it as instructed, I’ll give it a week until managers are shaking their heads and digging out smashed up frames from the skip....they could fix them back together with rubber bands and duct tape just like the vans.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Re: Unagreed trial into a frameless office
If you have to rely on the mech mail being in correct order it won’t happen. You normally get a mixture of letters at the end of the box plus Missorts from other rounds. The letters come upside down and back to front it will be a nightmare when your out there delivering.

Re: Unagreed trial into a frameless office
The letters at the end are where the machine has enough info to sort it to a walk, but not enough info as to where in the walk it goes, probably incomplete or missing entries on Route Planner.
Upside down ones will have been put through the initial IMP or iLSM upside down. If they are put the right way up, a CSS machine will reject them as it won't find the orange barcodes where it expects to find them on the letter. Sometimes mail might get put through upside down where it is prone to jamming right way up. Are the back to front ones RTS items with the return address on the back?

Re: Unagreed trial into a frameless office
Oh for Chist's does it matter WHY they're upside down, back to front, or missorts?.
The fact is they'll always be there which will cause the front line problems.
In the end that's the only thing that matters when we're talking about final mile delivery and a new cock eyed way of prepping it.

Some of the problems can be eliminated by the nominated person at a DO making sure that all the entries in Route Planner are always fully up to date, which would mean a greater % of the mail would arrive in the DOs sequenced.Dexydog wrote: ↑14 Nov 2022, 10:06Oh for Chist's does it matter WHY they're upside down, back to front, or missorts?.

Given that the DO I know of locally has already had their prep frames removed, my git feeling is that this time around, bench merging might be here to stay.

I don’t believe for one second that any DO has had ALL the frames removed already and nothing is being done about itSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑14 Nov 2022, 10:37Some of the problems can be eliminated by the nominated person at a DO making sure that all the entries in Route Planner are always fully up to date, which would mean a greater % of the mail would arrive in the DOs sequenced.Dexydog wrote: ↑14 Nov 2022, 10:06Oh for Chist's does it matter WHY they're upside down, back to front, or missorts?.

Ah I think I get it now, the people responsible for this actually believe their own rubbish about how much the mail has dropped off, yes it certainly has but it's still a long way away from being able to efficiently arrange it in order without a fitting.

Mate, that sounds lovely, but you clearly have no idea how hard it is to get anyone to do anything to help you with getting your mech route changed at a DO.
We all still have our mech coming as if the last revision is in place- in other words it might as well be loose.
It is honestly the worst organised place to work in you could possibly imagine.
Bench merging- it literally is cloud cuckoo land.
