The CWU will cease to exist in a few years anyway, how many new starts will bother joining? Once they outnumber those on more money, it's game over.timbo1234 wrote: ↑04 Nov 2022, 22:02I hope it isn't but this smells and reads like a sell out with the CWU saying it's the best we can get and RM saying it's the best we will offer. Then they all go down the pub.
If there is no better pay offer and CWU recommend a deal based on slight variations to the latest one , then the paid staff of the CWU better start looking for jobs because the CWU WILL CEASE TO EXIST.
I HOPE I'M WRONG.

What ? so you think they won't get bullied or abused in the future so will want protecting . Some people tend to forget why the unions were born in the first place . Some things will never change .tractorboy2 wrote: ↑05 Nov 2022, 09:22The CWU will cease to exist in a few years anyway, how many new starts will bother joining? Re: RMCtv : Royal Mail Group and CWU Joint Statement
Do you really think that any new CEO taking over from Thompson would be any better?
Any new CEO will have exactly the same remit - more of the same. Any CEO only has two targets to meet - SATISFY SHAREHOLDERS, and PROFIT.
Given how many CEO's have come and gone in recent years, if you can't see the wood for the trees now, you NEVER will.
What you see now is the FUTURE, and it won't change!

So you think all new starters will join the union then ? Don't get me wrong , I'd love everyone to be in the union , but can't see any newbies paying out the sub fees.

Of course it will. What you see now is the FUTURE, and it won't change!
The future isn't carved in stone even if you stick on your Caps lock to prove it, nobody says it will be a pretty future or an easy future but it will change because it always does.

What's the point?
The point is fighting and losing is not the same future as giving up and losing.

We had one at our place, gave notice to retire, then took great delight in spouting all sorts of RM doomsday scenarios because he wasn't going to be a part of it ...

Even if I had retired, I would still be behind all of you, figuratively speaking of course

If any new starters do actually join the union, then there is no way in hell that you can expect them to vote for, or participate in, industrial action against the next 0% pay offer for existing staff combined with further attacks on their terms and conditions.tractorboy2 wrote: ↑05 Nov 2022, 09:51

If we fail to win this fight now, due to some members bottling it after only a few days of strike action, then we will never be able to fight RM management on any issue at all ever again.

Re: RMCtv : Royal Mail Group and CWU Joint Statement
One it would depend on their remit as they have seen they cannot break the union so it is time for negotiation calm down the rhetoric and start talking in an honest fashion. Most agreements are somewhere in the equilibrium not in stellar dictates or impositions of ones hazy dreams after smoking some hash. Get back to reality not some dystopian dreams of public schools idealism Simon Thomson lives in here his track record https://www.voice.wales/royal-mail-boss ... rs-suffer/ Not that I persoanly have any beef with the guy but he cannont manage a piss up in a brewary and probaly will not turn up in any event!priority102 wrote: ↑05 Nov 2022, 09:38Do you really think that any new CEO taking over from Thompson would be any better?

Where anywhere have I said that I am not on the side of the posties? Where anywhere have I said that the CWU should give in?Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑05 Nov 2022, 11:15Of course it will. What you see now is the FUTURE, and it won't change!

I am as against what the current CEO and Co. are up to just as much as you, I have good mates still in, and genuinely feel for the cr@p they are having to deal with every working day.
What I simply said was, that when Thompson has gone - either by falling or being pushed - any new CEO will come in and it will be much of the same again as they try to make a name for themselves.
That's not "gloating", just telling it how it is. Sorry if being realistic offends! Oh, and I've underlined "they" instead of capitals as that also offends
