A special delivery was sent to me from UK to UK so should have arrived next day.
Almost a full 7 days later and not only has it not arrived, but the tracking was only updated twice, once to say it had been posted and then another a few days later to say it was in Heathrow international LC which is much further away that is stared and about 200 miles from my house.
The sender has emailed royal mail but get no reply so far so we are in total limbo with no information.

Why would a Uk to Uk Special need to go to Heathrow International ?

There might be a useful explanation regarding Heathrow LC used for another case further down - dated 29th October.
