What a terrible f***ing offer, no backdated pay and a one off lump sum - and all well below inflation as it is currently, with inflation showing no signs of going down.

And the watering down of new entrants terms and conditions begins, veiled threats of job losses and owner-drivers to complete the trifecta of s**t coming our way.

I can almost see an attempt at Fire and Re-Hire coming when they realise that there aren't enough recruits out there to meet what they want - unemployment is very low right now, there aren't people who are going to take up the job on those new terms in the numbers they need.

Tbh, I’m more reassured than previously by this desperate gambit.

You can feel the desperation in RM to try and force a deal, all while working on the vulnerable and desperate to try and get them back into work on days where we are striking.

The time-limited nature of the deal is all part of that - we have been indoctrinated within our culture to believe that time-specific offers are somehow special, and it creates an illusion of need and want whereby you feel as if this once-in-a-lifetime deal needs to be seized before it’s too late.

My gut feeling is that everyone knows this offer isn’t/wasn’t going to be accepted, and this is gamesmanship on behalf of RM. They want to break the strikes, even if that’s by slow erosion of our morale, and the olive branches they offer are largely disingenuous.

Personally I think it’s a really bad offer. A no strings lump sum of £1000 plus 5% - even if that was inclusive of the earlier pay rise - would be okay with me.

FYI, the lump sum they’re offering will amount to about a week’s wages once you’ve been taxed on it. And the condition for this wonderful boon is yet another revision, probably based on 300BSI with the average walking speed at 6mph.

'Oh, we'll give you a 2% lump sum, but we want to do another revision - the last one was a total balls-up, and we'll probably balls-up the next one, but at least we'll make your rounds 4 miles longer'.


I can see this company going to the dogs. People will leave en masse and they won't be able to employ the numbers they need as they simply won't find tens of thousands of people who will work medium or long term for this pay, on these terms.
