This is probably a stupid question, but if the rolling strikes were cancelled on a technicality, what's to stop the union fixing the technicality and announcing rolling strikes in December?

Didn't Andy say it was virtually impossible to have the necessary information 100% accurate.
Was it pointless announcing the rolling strikes if they knew they would be challenged?

Thing is people move die or become managers or just leave we as a union rely upon info from RM about service length for seniority and leave allocation this is not something that the employer should use highly paid lawyers/barristers for! Who by the way got 15% for well they found the money for them did they not when they are screaming poverty!

We have had several PE meetings over the last few days including today. It was not possible to also agree further strike dates to replace the functional action and throughout September.

We are meeting on Tuesday to discuss and agree a new program of action naming dates after the 14th November and throughout December.

In terms of functional action and the threat of a challenge it concerned only an hand full of sites and only a few hundred members out of 115 thousand. However the process is that Royal Mail could have asked a judge to award an interim injunction on both ballots until a full hearing in a few weeks time. The Postal Executive was not prepared to risk both ballots and therefore after advice from our lawyers we stood down the functional action. On Friday In expectation of a legal challenge the Postal Executive agreed the back stop everyone taking strike action on 12th and 14th November.

But also that they are not “fine” with strikes going ahead and mail not being delivered.
This is also a positive thing.


I’d also suggest that people should maybe take a step back and realise that these things will always have to-ing and fro-ing and that those wanting a team of Philadelphia lawyers to make sure everything is 100% watertight 100% of the time may want to be a bit more realistic in their expectations of what they get for 4 quid a week.
