Post Office clerk entered wrong second part of postcode for Special Delivery. Will it get there on time?

Post by Topeka1 »

I dropped off a parcel this morning at my local Post Office and paid for Saturday Special Delivery (delivery tomorrow by 1pm). As usual I was handed my Certificate of Posting/Proof of Postage. This evening I've checked it and found that the clerk at the Post Office has entered the wrong number for the second part of the postcode e.g. AA1 1DD instead of AA1 4DD. The other 4 characters of the postcode are correct, it's just the number in the second part.

I've checked on Google Maps and the wrong postcode is a real postcode about 1 mile away with a different road name. However, the building number for the incorrect road has a different postcode too.

I have a photo of the package I sent which confirms the correct postcode is printed clearly so it is definitely the clerk's error and not my error.
A few questions (if anybody knows the answer):

1. Is this likely to be delivered as scheduled without issue?

2. If it is delayed purely due to this error will I still be able to claim compensation for the late delivery?

3. Can the sending Post Office correct the error remotely in time if I contact them first thing in the morning?

4. What happens if it is delivered to the wrong address?

5. If the worst happens and the package is lost purely because the wrong postcode was entered by the clerk will I still be able to claim compensation?

Hopefully it arrives okay, the contents are approx £400 in value

Thank you in advance to anyone able to provide some insight.

Royal Mail deliver based on the the address written on the parcel, not what is in the computer. Which makes some of your questions irrelevant.

No, they have no way of changing that.

Thanks Snaggletooth, wasn't sure how it all worked but as you say, and from a few other similar posts on here, looks like it should be okay.

Have a good weekend.

I believe the PSMs read the QR code on the parcel for the address. If the postcode is wrong it will go to the wrong office. What is written in the computer is what is coded in the QR code.

In this case its probably irreverent as the "wrong postcode" is delivered by the same DO as the "correct postcode". It will go to right office and they will deliver it to the correct address as posties are human & can read an address.
