Help-signed for first class

Post by learco »

Hello,

Yesterday at 12:00 I posted, at the post office, an item signed for first class addressed to a locality in the south.

I wanted to know, taking into account the strike today, when would should this letter arrive?
Without the strike I would have assumed Friday, do you think it will be Monday next week taking into account the strike?
It is addressed to a PO Box.

Thanks

do royal mail first catchup with mail accumulated during the strike day or is priority given to new mail coming through the system post strike?

It's a managerial decision for each unit that depends on the volume of mail expected. Generally, however, they will prioritise mail that has not failed (ie not outside its delivery window) to try and keep the level of complaints low.

Ok thanks.
If they did decide to prioritize new mail worst case scenario how long could the delay on a signed for first class be?

Guestimate - about a week.

An update: item was signed for yesterday which is very quick.
However this leads to another query:

The item is signed by 'aspect house' and then a scribble.
Aspect house is not the po box from the address I sent the letter to but is an office location where the correspondence is actioned. Aspect house is not at the location where the po box is.
So do you think royal mail diverted the letter elsewhere as they could not provide a signature at post box or is the aspect house a batch signature by the office staff who have indeed emptied the po box at the relevant post office?

Items going to a PO Box address are usually delivered to a physical address along with the post for that address. Items are not usually held at the delivery office and are not usually collected or a "box" emptied. So if you live at 1 High Street and use PO Box 123 for post, the post addressed to PO Box 123 will be delivered to 1 High Street. Having said that, the name of the person signing for the item should have been recorded.

Thank you for your reply.

I was under the impression, wrongly, that post boxes were emptied by the owner rather than mail forwarded.isn't this the reason why couriers like DHL cannot deliver to po boxes and business sometimes specify po box for customers using RM and a physical address for couriers?

I was basing my reply in my experience as a postie. Mail for PO Boxes on the rounds that I did was given to me to sort and deliver to the property connected to the PO Box. From your link there are three types of service, "PO Box Deliver" is the one I was referring to and is probably the most common. I wouldn't know which service was being used by the company you sent your item to.

For other couriers to deliver to a PO Box they would have to deliver to the Delivery Office that processed mail for the address. I have no idea whether they would have that information or not.
