How many do you think we should take? None? If that's your view fair enough, if it's not then you just go round in circles with this argument.milly wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:21How many do we take? We take far fewer asylum seekers per capita than most countries, including European countries.
Countries bordering unsafe countries, inevitably, bear most burden. Some can't even cope.
We should take our fair share because we can cope. The only reason anyone could possibly object to doing our fair share is if someone simply doesn't like brown foreigners (or they've swallowed racist propaganda by the likes of Farage, Rupert Murdoch or the Daily Mail).
There's millions of people who would like to come here.

Well, Germany takes 23 refugee applicantions per 10,000 population. France takes 18. So maybe something along those lines?milly wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:21How many do we take? UK takes 8 per 10,000.
Cyrprus, btw, takes 153.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Minimum Wage to rise by 9.5%
While I don't agree with Milly, that's misleading comparing it to the situation now. Between Afgan, Hong Kong, Ukraine and now the amount crossing by boat there has been an enormous rise in those claiming asylum here. The system simply cannot cope with the huge incase in applications is one of the reasons all this is happening.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:34Top 10 Countries Hosting the Highest Number of International Refugees (mid-2021 data):

Probably they hear of our generous benefits system. I for one wouldn't choose to live in this shxt hole of a country. Do you realise btw just how many come to use our already overstretched nhs to have their babies? for one example.

Asylum seeker benefits:
What you'll get
You can ask for somewhere to live, a cash allowance or both as an asylum seeker.
Housing
You’ll be given somewhere to live if you need it. This could be in a flat, house, hostel or bed and breakfast.
You cannot choose where you live. It’s unlikely you’ll get to live in London or south-east England.
Cash support
You’ll get £40.85 for each person in your household. This will help you pay for things you need like food, clothing and toiletries.
Generous?

I've got a friend who has a house in France. He can't even go stay at his own house 6 months a yr. Why the hell should anyone have a automatic right to all the things you say? I was against Brexit btw.mjd24 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 21:41Do you not think theyd rather have a job and enjoy some fulfilment as well as earning a decent living?rambo1 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 20:34Quite honestly, yes, I think so.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 19:46Asylum seeker benefits:

I agree. Housing provided, 40 odd quid a week per person for food etc (for first 28 days). Instant access to Free Healthcare, and Free education.
Then access to our full benefit system after that first 28 days.
Wherever you stand on this, that is a generous system.

Re: Minimum Wage to rise by 9.5%
Too generous ffs
If it's so generous, why do so few people come here compared to most other countries?
If you were fleeing war or torture, as most of these people are, would you think it was too generous? Could you build a decent new life with your family with that pittance?
Honestly, how decent people have had their brains completely fried by racist propaganda over the years is so depressing.
You people know that Farage, Murdoch, the Tories, the Mail etc are laughing at you? They want you punching down so you don't blame them for our problems. You're pathetic little useful idiots to them.
Give your heads a bloody wobble.

Re: Minimum Wage to rise by 9.5%
The honest answer is so few people come to us, because we're an island off mainland Europe. And you're supposed to claim asylum in the first safe country you reach, we're harder to get to.sindba wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 22:08Too generous ffs![]()

Also, none of what you posted applies to me. I just think we have a generous system, objectively I think we do.
As it should be. Why is it not a generous system for refugees in your opinion?
