It's to counter Labour's argument whom (I believe) have pledged a 10 quid an hour minimum wage from day one. The freezing of the tax free threshold means it's one giant stealth tax though. Labour haven't ruled out doing the same either as far as I know. If the country is that skint they have to do this, fine, but they should make that argument.

We take far fewer asylum seekers per capita than most countries, including European countries.

Countries bordering unsafe countries, inevitably, bear most burden. Some can't even cope.

We should take our fair share because we can cope. The only reason anyone could possibly object to doing our fair share is if someone simply doesn't like brown foreigners (or they've swallowed racist propaganda by the likes of Farage, Rupert Murdoch or the Daily Mail).
