Parcel stuck at Heathrow Langley HWDC

Hi All,

This is exactly the thread I've been looking for as seem to be in the same boat and am getting very concerned. Tracking number is CJ158913401US and USPS show it as Departed Heathrow but Parcelforce deny all knowledge 9 days later! Did everyone else eventually get their parcels? What can I do!?

USPS are probably unique in that they track the items off the plane at Heathrow. So in this case, it's stuck in UK customs. Most items do no not spend 9 days there but a small percentage do. There is nothing you can do about this.

Yes, unless it's something which isn't allowed into the UK.

No, it's a golf club so nothing contraband! But it is a unique putter that can't really be bought again. I'm somewhat reassured after having read this thread and the fact that it is a large box that surely they can't lose! But there really should be some communication from HMRC that they have your item and it may be held for a period of time.

No tracking movement since 24 April 2017, now 29 June.

1. Theft is a possibility but not a good idea to have that as your first choice on a forum full of the people you may be accusing - Postal Workers.
2. Its also possible that the parcel has been damaged in some way, or that the address is incorrect or incomplete. For these, you need to make a complaint to Royal Mail (we are not Royal Mail) and they can investigate.
3. The other possibility is that Border Control has deemed it an illegal knife. While pocket knives or work knives are not banned a lot of different types of knives are indeed banned from entering the UK.

Point taken, If border force seized
the knife they send the police to your address to issue a warning.

I have reported it to HWDC Langley
but no reply to date.
Also one site I tracked it on gave
the shipping address, which was correct.

Sending any kind of blade in the mail is not just about the legality of the blade itself but also about the way it is packaged. It is probably more likely to be seized for being improperly packaged that for any inherent legal problem with the goods.

It is HMRC who do these checks, not the border force. I have never heard of them going round to somebody's house to warn over goods inward.

What's the last tracking entry? USPS are the only ones who scan the items as they leave the plane in the UK so if the last entry was in the US it's possible that either the US customs or the US equivalent of the CAA has not allowed it to be exported

Having looked up this knife, I am pretty sure that it falls foul of the UK mail import restrictions. Under prohibitions (i.e. banned) it lists "Switchblade knives (also knows as flick knives) and gravity knives". See the full listing here:

Therefore, HMRC are obliged to confiscate if found in the mail. Note that laws on sending in the mail are quite separate to the laws on possession.

This knife is available in the UK so
it cannot be deemed Illegal.

I only purchased it from the US
as it would have been a bit cheaper
Inc tax/duty.
Have since purchased from another
seller with no problems.

From what info I have found border
force do the checks for hmrc.
Any prohibited weapons seized could
result in a confiscation letter or
if the item is more serious a knock
on the door from the boys in blue.
Either way if my package was seized
I would be notified.
