Posting an item with a battery installed

Post by jayp7541 »

Sorry if I'm being stupid, but the guidance I've found on the Royal Mail website is somewhat confusing to me.

I'm looking at the prohibitions/restrictions leaflet ( https://www.royalmail.com/sites/default ... l%2019.pdf )

I've got a new electronic device with an alkaline battery (12V GP-23A) that I would like to post, but can't work out from the tables on that leaflet whether it is allowed to be posted within UK.

The various categories on the leaflet are:

Batteries that are classified as dangerous goods and certain used batteries
(including wet spillable lead acid/lead alkaline batteries
(such as car batteries), used alkaline metal, nickel metal hydride
(NiMH), nickel cadmium (NiCd), zinc-air batteries, solo lithium
batteries, power banks and damaged batteries of any type)

Batteries, specifically new alkaline metal, nickel metal hydride
(NiMH), nickel cadmium (NiCd), zinc-air and zinc chloride

Batteries, specifically new and used lithium batteries when not
sent with or connected to an electronic device

Batteries - new wet, non-spillable

(The categories of electtronic devices with Lithium battery do not seem apply)

My device is new and the battery came installed in the device. Does that mean it is considered as being sent in original/unopened retail packaging ? Thus is it safe to send?

You need to talk to Royal Mail, your circumstance is not covered in the leaflet. I would use the contact form on their website, so you have an email trail.
